Position Overview:We are looking for a skilled and motivated
Drafting Designer
to join our team in Roanoke, VA. This position will be responsible for assisting project engineers with AutoCAD, related tasks to facilitate the creation of CAD files and drawing packages for various projects.
Qualifications:Technical QualificationsAssociate degree or bachelor’s degree or proven experience in industrial design, mechanical drafting, computer aided drafting & design or similar and relevant experience required.At least 5 of proven experience in a Designer/Drafting positionKnowledge of engineering design principlesExcellent working knowledge of AutoCAD software is a MUST of 2D and 3D drawingsWorking knowledge of Microsoft Word and ExcelAdditional Preferred Technical QualificationsExperience in the any heavy industrial applications is a plusExperience in the cement industry is a plusKnowledge of SolidWorks, Revit, Inventor is a plusKnowledge of 3D scanning technology is a plusConversion of point cloud data into accurate 3D BIM models is a plusWorking knowledge of BIM is a plusKnowledge of surveying principles is a plusKnowledge of MSHA and OSHA Regulations as they pertain to the areas we serve, is a plusOther QualificationsSelf-motivated, willing/able to take initiative, works well with others in a team environmentDiligent organizational skills and proven ability to simultaneously work on several fast-paced projectsExcellent written and oral communications skillsInterpersonal skills to work within a team, taking direction from Project Managers and EngineersTime management skills to complete error-free work within the required timeframeCritical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop creative solutionsAbility to travel to job sites – Travelling is limited to less than 20% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:Using CAD software and modelling tools to create rough sketches as well as detailed drawings in 2D and 3D (including plans, elevations, sections, and connection details)Perform site measurements & guide specialized contractors performing 3D scansComplete site layouts based on project specificationsEstimating material quantities and costsUse predesigned templates to complete construction drawing packagesDevelop databases and/or libraries to optimize re-use of existing dataSetting up drawing formats and configuration filesHave a lead role in the development of design standardsResearch design codes related to project requirementsEvaluate vendors and contractors’
