Description
We are always on the lookout for fresh, new voices to add to our roster of talented writing team. We are only accepting applications for this position from experienced writers/editors.
We are seeking a talented and experienced Managing Editor to join our team at Nekia Nichelle, LLC. The Managing Editor will play a crucial role in overseeing the editorial operations and ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of content across our platforms.
This is a 12 month, unpaid internship position that is remote-based and requires you to support the Editor-in-Chief (as an intern), as well as internal staff, with a variety of publicity and organizational tasks. While the work is done at your own pace, adherence to deadlines is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to possess strong critical thinking skills to complement our dynamic team.
You will be overseeing our editorial and marketing team and assisting with the editorial and marketing review process, including publication style, content, production, and schedule. Along with assisting fellow writers and social media managers, the Assistant Editor Intern must keep up-to-date with trending topics. This position requires producing 2-5 blog posts per week, conceptualizing and pitching stories to the Editor-In-Chief, conducting research, interviewing sources, writing and editing copy, selecting photos and art to accompany articles, proofreading, conducting talent interviews, applying basic SEO principles to web-based content, managing the newsletter, and collaborating across the company with members of design, digital, and projects.
Responsibilities
- Support Editor-In-Chief with a variety of publicity and organizational tasks
- Lead and manage the editorial team, providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure high-quality content production.
- Develop and implement editorial strategies to align with company goals and audience interests.
- Produce 2-5 blog posts per week
- Conduct interviews and gather information from reliable sources to enhance the depth and quality of articles.
- Adhere to deadlines and manage multiple writing assignments simultaneously.
- Revise and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to style guidelines.
- Plan, assign, and oversee the creation of engaging and relevant content, including articles, videos, and multimedia projects.
- Manage editorial calendars, deadlines, and workflows to ensure timely delivery of content.
- Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, design, and social media, to coordinate content promotion and distribution.
- Stay informed about industry trends, audience preferences, and emerging technologies to inform content strategy and innovation.
- Monitor content performance metrics and analytics to evaluate effectiveness and make data-driven decisions for optimization.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with freelancers, contributors, and industry partners.
- Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, including copyright, privacy, and disclosure requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in editorial leadership roles, with a strong portfolio of published work.
- Strong leadership, team management, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Assist an editorial team with the production and review process
- Passion for storytelling and the ability to craft compelling narratives.
- High level understanding of blogging, cities, and social media platforms

- Has a deep understanding of Wordpress & Canva

- Own or have access to internet and a computer with a working camera
- Graduate or currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Journalism, English, Communications).
- Ability to conduct thorough research and synthesize information into engaging articles.
