Job Description

Responsibilities:
- Technical project execution, including applying sound engineering judgment and a deep understanding of governing codes, design guidelines, and industry practices; collaborating with interdisciplinary project teams across WJE as the enclosure subject-matter expert (SME); leveraging your expertise for a variety of building envelope systems and materials; preparing technically excellent client deliverables; providing high-quality reviews and oversight of work by others; and performing and training others in hands-on field work
- Project management, including client development, project scoping, assembling and managing appropriate project teams, maintaining project schedules and budgets, and managing client expectations and deliverables
- Contributions to building enclosure practice and company-wide objectives, including participating in recruitment, mentoring, and development of up-and-coming consultants; collaborating with other practice leaders for in-house knowledge-sharing and training initiatives; and enhancing WJE’s profile through meaningful involvement in professional organizations, conferences, and technical committees
Qualifications:
- Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE); other relevant professional certifications (e.g., RBEC, RRC, RWC, REWC) will be considered with significant relevant expertise
- Master’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Civil Engineering or related field; five-year Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) degree; other degrees may be considered with demonstration of significant relevant expertise
- Minimum eight years of relevant industry experience (e.g., technical detailing of building envelope systems, roofing systems, and waterproofing systems, particularly at the interface of different building enclosure systems, assemblies, or components; building science and performance evaluation, including condensation, moisture, relative humidity, and thermal analysis; or new construction consulting, commissioning, peer reviews, and design-assist).
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following materials and systems: facades, curtain walls, fenestrations, glazing systems, sealants and coatings, insulation, air barriers, weather barriers, cladding assemblies, low-slope roofing, steep-slope roofing, below-grade waterproofing, plaza/terrace waterproofing, traffic coatings, green roofs, building science, etc.
- Effective technical, graphical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing demands, while maintaining a high standard of excellence, integrity, and attention to detail
- Participation in relevant industry organizations
Physical Requirements:

Individuals must have the dexterity to be able to operate office and field equipment such as computer, printer, fax, copier, telephone, voice mail system, and other office and field equipment. Requirements may also include:
- Ability to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sites
- Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instruments
- Ability to safely work at heights, in confined spaces, and in a variety of occupationally hazardous locations, including outdoors with exposure to temperature extremes
- Ability to safely use and/or operate ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and other access equipment
- Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and other heavy equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Medically fit to utilize respiratory protection devices and other forms of Personal Protective Equipment
- Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle

Annual starting base salary (gross): $105,000 to $165,000. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on several factors including consideration for a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base salary is one component of our total compensation package for employees.
