Job Description

The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical knowledge and perform design work as described below. This position serves as an Area Lead Designer or staff designer performing assignments of advanced complexity.

  • Under general supervision of the Discipline Lead Engineer or Design Supervisor, serve as an Area Lead Designer providing guidance/supervision to designers
  • Prepare and check designs of advanced complexity utilizing 3D modeling and 2D computer- aided drafting and design (CADD) automation tools
  • Coordinate technical issues with other disciplines, project management, vendors and clients
  • Execute work in compliance with Project Quality Plan and procedures
  • Execute work in accordance with the approved project scope, cost and schedule baselines
  • Perform bulk material take-off analysis and tabulations
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with equipment and material procurement and subcontracting including review of vendor submittals
  • Provide technical support to activities associated with construction administration including response to construction requests-for-information and field changes
  • Other duties as assigned

HR NOTES: 

Plumbing Designers (2) in the GVL office.

 

  1. Designer: We will need 1 designer that understands plumbing but does not need 3D Experience. The designer will be used to check the plumbing design and verify it is code compliant. 

 

  1. We will need a 2nd designer that can search the model for clashes and fix minor clashes. They will need S3D experience. They need to be able to work within a team and complete areas as the schedule indicates. Good communication skills is a must. This designer will review existing models and work through clashes and the S3D to-do lists. They will be responsible for clash management for our discipline and work as directed by the area lead.

Basic Job Requirements

  1. U.S. Citizenship required
  2. Minimum fifteen (10) years of work-related experience designing HVAC or plumbing systems
  3. Working knowledge of applicable federal (including Department of Energy orders), state, and local codes and standards
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to project management, coworkers, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
  5. Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
  6. Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards
  7. Ability to perform work in compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, statutes and guidelines
  8. Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner
  9. Intermediate computer and software skills to include proficiency in the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheet and electronic presentation programs
  10. Significant experience providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on large industrial projects
  11. Proficiency executing large engineering projects utilizing 3D modeling and 2D CADD automation tools in a multi-discipline environment
  12.  

    Discipline Specific Job Requirements

  13. Proficiency utilizing 3D modeling and 2D CADD automation tools in the design of HVAC or plumbing systems
  14. 3D modeling of HVAC equipment and ductwork
  15. Development of 2D duct plans from the 3D model
  16. Development of 2D sections, details and HVAC schedules
  17.  

    Preferred Qualifications

  18. Associate degree in related technical field of study
  19. Experience with design of systems, structures and components for nuclear facilities under the requirements of ASME NQA-1
  20. Knowledge of commercial availability and cost of materials 
  21. Practical field experience
  22. EPC project experience for the following industries:
    1. U.S Department of Energy or other U.S. Federal Government Agency
    2. Nuclear facilities under a nuclear quality assurance program
    3. Manufacturing, pharmaceutical or biotechnology
  23. Advanced knowledge and proficiency using Intergraph Smart3D (S3D) soft
