POSITION MANDATE The Communications Support Specialist will work on the USAID-funded Private Sector Engagement Modernization Institutional Support Contract (PSEMC) within USAID’s Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Hub. This role is expected to support the USAID’s Center for Economics and Market Development (EMD) communications portfolio with a focus on the Agency’s Economic Resilience Initiative (ERI). This position is organized within EMD’s Program and Cadre Development (PCD) team. They will collaborate closely with EMD’s Office Director, PCD team members, and technical experts throughout the Center to coordinate, craft, and communicate EMD’s key initiatives, particularly ERI. The Communications Support Specialist will proactively and strategically develop communications products and messages for external and internal audiences. This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. requiring at least 3 days in person (or as required by your managing director). OUTCOMES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Proactively support EMD’s strategic communications planning efforts at Center, initiative (ERI, Policy creation, etc.), and Team levels. Support in coordination of the development and execution of internal and external communications as it relates to EMD’s work, including creating presentations, Fact Sheets, talking points, and website and social media content. Collaborate with EMD Team Leads to draft, copyedit and finalize marketing pieces, including websites, articles, briefings, presentations, annual reports, and other applicable forms of communications. Prepare graphic visualizations (e.g., templates, photos, external one-pagers) to convey insights externally and internally to USAID in a clear, concise, and compelling manner, promoting knowledge management, learning, and communications. Assist in development of communications content, products, and event support for EMD staff. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree and two years of work experience, or Associate degree and four years of work experience, or six plus years equivalent relevant work experience. Experience with editing and copyediting reports and external marketing pieces such as press releases, articles, etc. Minimum of two years of work experience utilizing graphic design programs including Canva or UX/web creation/design. Strong organizational and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and ability to work well under pressure. Active, or ability to obtain, a Secret-level security clearance. PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Previous USAID or other USG experience. Experience working with leadership teams to finalize internal and external communication strategies. Work experience utilizing Google Suite and Drive including documents, sheets, and forms. Current holder of an active Secret-level security clearance. COMPETENCIES An organized and proactive individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to support a team of individuals on a broad array of tasks with competing priorities. Strong ability to take initiative and report up to various levels of seniority. TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS The employee must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally and up to 10-15% for work assignments (to USAID Partner Countries). WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position operates in a professional office environment, and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. As a part of the responsibilities for this job, the employee is required to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, and exchange information orally and in writing with others. The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position, sitting at a desk for prolonged periods, move or traverse inside the office and facilities; operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, detect, or position computers and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, furniture, and computer printer. The employee must be able to make substantial repetitive motions of the wrists, hands and fingers. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 15lbs at times.
