Job Summary:
CRW is currently looking for a junior to mid-level airport design engineer to work in our Anchorage office to assist our aviation group in planning and design of airport facilities and infrastructure. CRW’s Aviation group supports a wide variety of projects across Alaska, with much of that work occurring at the busy cargo hub, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. CRW’s Aviation group focuses primarily on civil improvements to airports, as well as lighting and other Navigational Aid upgrades. In this position you will assist in modelling and developing improvements to runways, taxiways, hardstands, passenger boarding bridges, hangars, deicing facilities and treatment systems, airport lighting, and other infrastructure projects related to both public and private airport developments.
CRW provides in house staff of professionals to support our aviation design team including civil, structural, geotechnical, communications and electrical engineers and field surveyors. Our team has been working extensively at the Ted Stevens International Airport for more than two decades and have current contracts at several other Alaskan airports. We work with FAA, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, and a variety of private clients and lease holders. The successful candidate will be included in a variety of ongoing design projects or, if appropriately experienced, manage a project team to complete the work.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assembling engineering plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimate
- AutoCAD Civil 3D Design and Drafting
- Communication with project teams
- Use of Basic Office Products – Outlook, Excel, Word, Bluebeam Studio / PDF Editor
- Aircraft movement modeling and analysis
- Airport design not limited to runways, aprons, taxiways, hardstands, terminal facilities Design of different areas within airport construction such as platforms, terminal buildings, control towers etc.
- Civil design for airport improvements not limited to grading, storm drain, lighting, pavement, striping
- Development of supplemental documents such as reports, studies, technical memos, and other planning documents
- Assisting with project bidding, permitting, and construction as needed
- Site visits to observe project progression
- Potential for travel to remote Alaskan communities
- Preparation of various studies and models such as feasibility studies (technical and economic feasibility), aeronautical safety studies, planning studies, airport management models etc.
- Participation in the design of special airport systems such as airfield ground lighting or apron floodlighting, A-VDGS, etc.
- Any other tasks assigned by management relating to primary area of responsibility.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- A go-getter who thrives on finding creative solutions to complex problems
- Has exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related degree.
- A master’s degree in an aviation related field is a plus for this position.
- 3 years minimum experience in Airport Design.
- Licensed professional engineering license in Alaska and/or Washington or ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
- Experience with Civil 3D, Avi Plan, FAARFIELD, FAA Advisory Circular Standards, and related software is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to travel to various project sites.
- Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
