GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Working under minimal supervision carries out a variety of moderately complex to complex drafting assignments exercising considerable to extensive latitude in the use of independent judgment. Prepares layout drawings, detailed designs, hydraulic/pneumatic/electric schematics, parts lists, and tool and gage drawings according to engineering specifications using CAD 2-D, 3-D and Solidworks software. Reviews drawings and supporting documentation to verify adherence to standard practices. Analyzes design and confers to resolve details not completely defined. Physically views and draws information from the fixturing and tooling in the actual machines on the shop floor. Reviews final drawings to verify completeness, clarity and accuracy. Transfers drawing dimensions from computer onto hardcopy, using peripheral equipment. Performs routine drafting and design tasks requiring the operation and application of Computer-Aided-Design equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Uses sketches, layouts, or discussions to prepare detailed drawings, generally for new designs or new tooling based on existing concepts.
Applies industrial standards to drawings, including drawing creation and tolerancing.
Designs or adapts basic mechanical fixturing and/or tooling designs.
Creates layout drawings, detailed drawings, hydraulic/pneumatic/electric schematics, parts lists, and tool and gage drawings.
Provides work leadership and feedback to lower-level CAD Operators.
Maintains and updates drawing files.
Participates in continuous improvement and 5S activities.
Works overtime on a daily and/or weekend basis based off the needs of the company.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Associates degree in Computer-Aided-Design Technology from a two-year college or university; generally requires a minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing engineering or similar functionor equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidate must show proficiency in the fundamentals of Computer Aided Design.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals and technical journals. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, vendors, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to use basic math skills as related to CAD drawings.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must show mechanical aptitude and be able to interpret part prints.
Must be able to function in a team environment by working with, and cooperating with others.
Must be able to clearly communicate in both written and oral forms with others.
Must be able to work under close supervision and on own initiative.
Should be pro-actively involved in the improvement process, and promote its use within the facility.
