The National Interest seeks an assistant editor to support its forthcoming energy channel, Energy World, which will launch in January 2025, and to help to produce other content as needed. The channel will cover the collision between great power competition and the evolving global energy system, to include political, economic, and technological competition for energy and related commodities and technologies; changing patterns of fossil fuel supply and demand; established and emerging clean energy technologies such as nuclear, advanced nuclear, and renewable energy; energy access, reliability, affordability, and security; energy-related trade and investment; and climate change politics, policy, and diplomacy.

Responsibilities:

  • Review unsolicited submissions
  • Edit and post articles daily
  • Support video/audio/print interviews with experts, businesses, NGOs, and policymakers
  • Support periodic in-person and virtual panel discussions
  • Monitor energy-related developments domestically and internationally
  • Assist Energy World managing editor
  • Ensure high professional standards in editing, writing, argumentation, and evidence in published material
  • Other editorial and programmatic duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • BA in journalism, politics, economics, international affairs, science/engineering, energy, or related fields
  • 1-2 years journalism or related experience, including 1 year working on energy/climate issues
  • Outstanding English-language writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with international and domestic energy policy, technology, and markets
  • Familiarity with international affairs
  • Eager to work in a small, fast-paced team
  • Willing to work in The National Interests Washington, DC office regularly
  • Authorized to work in the United States
