This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Kármán line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.
You will be part of a well-rounded, talented team of engineers who designs, analyzes, and develops Ground Fluid Systems for New Shepard operations & maintenance. As a Fluid Systems Technical Designer, you will be responsible for the Computer Aided Design (CAD) for applications such as pneumatic, cryogenic, and hydraulic systems. You will work closely with engineering teams, project engineers, technicians, and internal customers to ensure the ground fluid systems are designed efficiently, meets specifications, and comply with industry standards. You will use CAD to generate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), 3D models, and 2D engineering drawings to completely define various systems, components, and assemblies. You will have the responsibility for developing new panel designs, piping layouts, update existing design configurations, and propose design alternatives. You will perform model and drawing review activities during engineering release reviews across sub-systems. You will ensure the engineering Bill of Materials (eBOM) is accurately defined and represented. You will inform project engineers with schedule input and deliver scope to meet program needs. This role requires an understanding of fluid mechanics, and hydraulics with a strong proficiency in design software and tools.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Design and develop fluids system panel layouts and piping configurations.Create detailed technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams using CAD software.Collaborate with cross-function teams to integrate fluid systems into larger mechanical and electrical systems.Develop and maintain documentation including Bill of Materials and fluid system product structures.Ensure fluid system layouts comply with industry and internal design standards.Assist with the selection of appropriate materials, components, and equipment for fluid systems.Provide technical support during the manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning for fluid systems.Manage fluid system definition using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools.Perform drawing and models peer reviews.Initiate and maintain contact with stakeholders.Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Associate degree in Computer Aided Drafting & Design or related field.Proven experience in fluid system design, preferably in aerospace or oil & gas industries.Proficiency in CAD software, such as AutoCAD, PTC Creo, or similar.Knowledge of fluid mechanics and hydraulics components.Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME B31.3 Process PipingFamiliarity and ability to create mechanical engineering drawings to industry standards such as ASME Y14.5.Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Strong communication and teamwork skillsAbility to manage multiple projects tasks and deadlines effectively.Familiarity with instrumentation related to fluid systems.Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusionMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant aerospace industry experience of ground systems.Knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, fitting, welding, etc.)Knowledge of control systems and instrumentation related to fluid systems.Ground Support Equipment (GSE) fluids, mechanical, electrical structural or mechanical systems experience.Solid understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysisSolid understanding of common manufacturing processes and machines including pipe welding, mills, lathes, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc.
Compensation Range for:WA applicants is $76,320.00-$106,848.00
