Job Description

A Townsend Building Supply (a division of Carter Lumber) Design Manager is responsible for setting the example and providing direction in the operation of designing plans for quoting and production of various components including roof trusses, floor trusses, and engineered wood products (EWP). This is accomplished by ensuring drawings are produced accurately and timely based off blueprints provided by customers. Requires knowledge of commonly used framing concepts and practices within the construction industry. Effective communication with the field, internal departments and external vendors is mandatory for the success of this position. A strong belief in the mission and goals of the company are necessary for this position. 

This position will be servicing the Southern Alabama, Northwestern Florida, and Georgia markets. 

Requirements

  • Experience with using MiTek
  • Previous management experience in the building material industry preferred.
  • Must be able to work on-site.
  • Knowledgeable in the basic aspects of construction.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledgeable in reading architectural and structural plans.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize, and coordinate work activities.
  • Strong work knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • 90k-120k; onsite at the Dothan, AL location preferred 

Responsibilities

Staff Management

  • Responsible for setting the direction and managing areas of employment such as hiring, communication, motivation, discipline, separation, and other areas.  Ensures goals are outlined for employees and are met.  

Designing       

  • Creates design illustrations based on blueprints to produce working drawings for fabrication. Completes and finalizes designs for production and assembly. Evaluates designs to ensure that design standards are being met.

Analyzes and Troubleshoots

  • Reviews and analyzes specifications, blueprints, engineered drawings and related designs to determine factors affecting design of the wall, truss and engineered wood components.

Support

  • Communicates with production teams, customers, and Store Managers to ensure designs are accurate throughout the process. Assists stores in responding to questions/concerns from customers.
