We are seeking candidates and/or clinical fellowships candidates with knowledge of research-based practices in evaluation and intervention strategies focusing on aural rehabilitation and language acquisition. Qualified candidates must have knowledge of sign language as well as augmentative/alternative communication modalities. The opportunity is a full-time clinical and educational position, that provides the opportunity to complete the ASHA clinical fellowship with the support of an excellent team of experienced speech-language pathologists and other experienced speech-language pathology leaders. Following successful completion of the clinical fellowship, the position continues as a full time position at Nationwide Children's Hospital, home of one of the nation's largest and most exciting speech-language pathology departments. A Place to Be Proud .ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:The Staff Speech/Language Pathologist supports, communicates, implements and enforces the philosophy, mission, values, standards, policies and procedures of Nationwide Children's Hospital.Evaluates patients with varied diagnoses to determine developmental and/or functional status using standardized measures or clinical observations; identifies patient's strengths and deficits; establishes goals; and develops an individualized treatment plan incorporating patient and family needs.Administers therapeutic treatment to patients with developmental delay or functional deficits to provide optimal development, function, and independence; utilizes developmental activities and other treatment techniques to meet each patient's specific needs and achieve therapy goals; observes progress and/or changes in patient's condition and modifies treatment plan accordingly.Educates patients/parents/caregivers on treatment goals and therapy plan; instructs patients/parents/caregivers on therapeutic activities to follow at home; documents instruction; and evaluates ongoing compliance and understanding.Documents patients' evaluation results, objective status, progress towards goals, treatment plan, and recommendations in compliance with documentation requirements of the hospital and accrediting associations; utilizes appropriate computerized or standardized documentation methods, as applicable to caseload.Communicates patient's status and collaborates with physicians, third-party payors, and relevant healthcare providers.Participates in Evidence Based Practice, maintaining active knowledge of peer reviewed literature and implementing this information in best clinical care.Maintains the administrative functions of individual caseload, including scheduling patients for treatment, entering daily patient charges, and submitting timely documentation to appropriate parties.Attends continuing education programs and participates in departmental in-service training programs to enhance professional development.Conducts formal and informal Speech/Language Pathology educational programs for hospital staff, students and community. Delegates to students from accredited programs and supervises Clinical Fellows and licensed speech aides. Provides instruction to Medical Residents, Medical Students, Nurses, and other colleagues.Adheres to departmental productivity standards.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology, required.Valid Ohio License in Speech Pathology, required.Certification in Speech Pathology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, or eligible for supervision by a certified speech-language pathologist during a fellowship experience, required.Previous pediatric experience desirableCPR certification must be received no later than 60 days post hire or 60 days post-expiration, required.Minimum Physical Requirements:Standing/Walking - Constantly (67-100%)Independently Lifting/Carrying up to 15 pounds - Frequently (34-66%)Independently Lifting/Carrying up to 50 pounds - Occasionally (0-33%)Finger Dexterity - Constantly (67-100%)Kneeling - Frequently (34-66%)Bending/Stooping - Frequently (34-66%)Reaching - Frequently (34-66%)Talking/Hearing/Seeing - Constantly (67-100%)Pushing/Pulling - Frequently (34-66%)The above list of duties is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by individuals assigned to this classification.
