Two (2) years of experience in grant writing, submission of grant proposals, or grant management, preferably within municipal government. Or Combination of education, training, and/or work experience equal to or higher than the requirements listed above as determined by Human Resources. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks. Nature of Work: This is a multi-functional grants professional position within the Grants Division that performs grant application research, writing, reporting, record keeping in compliance with federal, state, and local requirementsall with meticulous attention to detail. Under the general direction of the Senior Grant Writer (Grants Division Manager), this individual researches and drafts competitive grant proposals aligned with the City's strategic goals and objectives for a healthy environment, an excellent quality of life, and continued economic vitality. Examples of Work: Writes and manages governmental and foundational grants. Reviews and evaluates grant-funding opportunities that have the potential to further organizational goals and objectives. Prepares detailed progress reports for granting agencies on a period basis for submission to local, state and federal granting agencies. Researches, schedules, and manages processes to assure timely and accurate completion of all grant applications, modifications, and awards. Completes grant applications on time and with all required forms and fields using the funders' required submission techniques (print/mail, online portals, email, etc.). Works in consultation with Grants Division staff and City subject matter experts to research, write, and manage grants. Maintains meticulous records of grant activities and provides grant updates at staff meetings. Facilitates meetings to ensure projects remain on schedule, addresses any delays, and resolves problems in a timely manner. Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with external agencies, community stakeholders, granting agencies, and City staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Federal, State, and foundation grant funding sources. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Regional grant programs targeting any of the following: infrastructure, public works, transportation, disadvantaged communities, parks and recreation, technology, CDBG, coastal resiliency, police and fire, and hazard mitigation. Knowledge of proposal development, application procedures, and grant management activities. Skills in technology-assisted grant research, advanced web search, writing, and proofreading. Computer skills that include proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point; online meeting technologies; and digital file management. Knowledge of basic financial principles, including budget preparation and grant-related financial tracking. Exceptional written communication skills to draft compelling grant proposals, progress reports, and renewal requests. Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively. Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with internal departments, external partners, and funders. Ability to adapt to changing funding landscapes and organizational needs.
