About the Role - We are seeking an experienced and passionate Grant Writer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in securing funding through grants and will be responsible for researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals to support our historical preservation efforts, renovation projects, museum activities, and youth programs.
Work Location: Work from Home/Remote
Travel Required: One trip to Newport, RI every 1-2 months
Start Date: January 2025
Duration: 6 months minimum
Schedule: 15 hours per week (FLEXIBLE TO FIT YOUR SCHEDULE!)
Responsibilities
- Research Grant Opportunities: Identify and evaluate potential funding sources, including government agencies, private foundations, and corporate sponsors that align with our mission
- Proposal Development: Write compelling grant proposals that clearly articulate the need for funding, project goals, and expected outcomes. Ensure that proposals comply with grant guidelines and deadlines.
- Collaboration: Work closely with program directors, historians, and other staff to gather necessary information, data, and narratives needed for grant applications.
- Budget Preparation: Collaborate with the finance team to prepare detailed budgets that align with grant proposals and demonstrate responsible fiscal management.
- Reporting: Develop and submit timely progress and financial reports to funders, ensuring transparency and accountability in the use of grant funds.
- Networking: Build and maintain relationships with grant-making organizations and stakeholders to enhance funding opportunities and support for our initiatives.
- Monitoring Trends: Stay informed about trends in grant funding and nonprofit fundraising strategies, particularly within the area of historical preservation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Nonprofit Management, History, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in grant writing for the nonprofit sector.
- Strong writing, editing, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
- Proven success in securing grants from various institutional funding sources.
- Knowledge of historical preservation and museum operations is preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
