Kentucky Educational Television, (KET) has the following full-time position opening at its Louisville, Kentucky Network Center:
Broadcast Engineer

KET is Kentucky’s only statewide media organization, serving more than two million people each week with programs and services that educate, inform, and inspire.  In addition to broadcasting PBS programming, KET produces a variety of award-winning local productions and creates high quality, nationally recognized educational resources.  As a member of our team, you’ll help bring learning to life for viewers and users in Kentucky.

As the Broadcast Engineer, the individual selected for this role will operate, adjust and repair studio broadcast television equipment to assure equipment meets manufacturer and industry specifications. Monitor and update broadcast and production servers, storage and switching for proper operations.

Our ideal Candidate will:

Coordinate and maintain the engineering and IT functions at KET’s Louisville Production facility.
Be a liaison with outside engineering and IT contractors and vendors.

Configure, control, and monitor video levels for KET studio and remote productions, assist in Production and Broadcast operations.

Install, repair and maintain studio and broadcast television equipment to assure specifications are met.

Maintain department’s physical inventory records, participate in annual inventory audits, and ensure decommissioned systems are surplussed per agency guidelines.

Perform daily monitoring of broadcast and production systems, perform scheduled routine maintenance, minimize service interruption when equipment or services fail by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions.

Respond to and resolved submitted trouble tickets, ensure timely resolutions, and escalate issues for additional technical support. Train KET staff on new procedures and equipment operation.

Be a liaison with IT System Administrators, Transmissions Engineers, Production staff and Web Developers to enhance network efficiencies, improve workflows, and solve problems.

Ensure network and physical security procedures are maintained, followed and enforced.

Manage and maintain all broadcast technology related equipment within the facility including master control, production studios, post-production systems and others.

Update system components as necessary to maintain operational efficiencies, including software, drivers, security standards and protocols, and ensure supported versions are in use.

Maintain detailed records and drawings of system configurations and workflow SOPs, ensure that documentation is updated as systems are modified, or new systems installed.

Effectively collaborate with team members by sharing skills, knowledge, and processes. Seek and participate in applicable training opportunities.

Demonstrate dedication to diversity in areas of responsibility.

Successful applicants will have the following minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:

An associate’s degree in electronics, IT, or related area of study and five (5) years experience in broadcast systems is preferred.  Professional experience should include routing and distribution systems, video servers, playout automation systems, multi-viewers, transcoding, LTO libraries, production switches, digital audio systems, graphics system, nonlinear edit systems, MAMs, VTRs, studio and field cameras and lenses. Work experience may be substituted for educational requirements.

Must have strong skills in the operation and troubleshooting of Windows-based systems and television studio, postproduction, and master control playout systems; working knowledge of broadcast test generators, test equipment and signal monitoring systems and basic understanding of IP networking; as well as working knowledge of FCC rules related to broadcast television signals.

Must be able to move/lift/carry equipment weighing up to 70 pounds and operate equipment while standing, sitting, bending, or kneeling for extended periods of time.

Must be able to work under deadline pressure in an efficient, creative, and positive manner.

Must have strong computer-user, writing, oral communications, and professional interpersonal skills.

Must be available on a flexible schedule and for night and weekend shifts.

Must maintain a professional demeanor and appearance at all times. Appropriate professional dress required.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license to drive KET vehicles.
