This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Broadcast Engineer and Technology Manager at Panhandle PBS/KACV-TV who will be all-in on our mission and who will be responsible for the broadcast of PPBS/ KACV-TV's three channels at all times on all platforms, over the air, cable, satellite tv, and streaming services. The engineer will oversee and maintain broadcast equipment, multiple computer networks, as well as having solid working knowledge of satellite transmission.
Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Required: Associate's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or broadcast/communications technology or a related field.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or broadcast/communications technology or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Three (3) years of experience with engineering, satellite transmission, IT and/or audio/video equipment or related field.

Preferred: Experience in live production environments.

*Eight (8) years of experience working in the field of broadcast engineering as well as industry certifications and trainings will be considered in lieu of degree.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required: Valid Texas Driver's License

Preferred: Society of Broadcast Engineers Certification
Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Broadcast PPBS/KACV-TV on all platforms, over the air, cable, satellite tv, and streaming services.
  • Maintain and operate KACV-TV transmitter, master control, and production systems.
  • Oversee and maintain broadcast equipment, multiple computer networks, server room, and satellite dish and other systems to keep satellite transmission in working order.
  • Maintain, care for, update and repair all PBS technical equipment in the Gilvin studios as well as all PBS remote equipment.
  • Operate HVAC, power intake, transmitters, cables, and antennas located at the KACV tower site.
  • Maintain KACV-TV's six integrated computer networks with Static/Dynamic/Combo IP schemes via three ISP providers running Linux, Mac, and Windows appliances and associated security protocols.
  • Assit with tracking department budgets, contracts, and inventory.
  • Maintain compliance with FCC (Federal Communications Commission) laws and other regulations.
  • Support the Content Production department, as needed.
  • Install new equipment and service/troubleshoot/repair existing equipment that's not in good working order in the Panhandle PBS student studio classroom, master control, and the broadcast studios.
  • Provide technical support and equipment troubleshooting of TV equipment for instructors in the Matney Mass Media program when problems arise.
  • Maintain AV networks, projector, camera, and audio at PBS remote and studio events.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and repairs of station generators and other equipment with vendors and campus physical plant.
  • Manage all personnel on the PBS/KACV-TV engineering staff.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to remain on-call as needed for transmitter/equipment problems, outage, and repairs that occur after office hours.

  • Must possess a high level of computer technology knowledge and skills and be familiar with digital equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of broadcast equipment operation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and operate within all FCC rules and regulations for public broadcast stations.
  • Knowledge of television station systems and how they are integrated.
  • Knowledge of and understanding of how to build networks that allow for broadcasting live events.
  • Knowledge and experience to maintain and repair the following existing equipment and systems: Television automation system (Aveco); TV playout (Harmonic); video router (Utah Scientific); sync generator and LTC (Utah Scientific); traffic and archive systems (Myers); video processors; audio processors; video servers; production server system (EVO); lighting systems in studio and portable rigs; PBS satellite delivery of content and associated satellite dish and receivers; PBS fiber delivery of content and associated servers and network; broadcast IT management of six integrated networks with Static/Dynamic/Combo IP schemes via three ISP providers; cameras used in studio and for PBS productions; microphones; audio console; generators; live event video and audio systems; monitors (screens and televisions); support gear for production/events such as cases, cables, tripods, etc.; remote control systems accessed via DTMF and IP; microwave appliances used to courier signals from campus to tower; and other systems or equipment as needed and related to television broadcasting.

Salary: Amarillo College follows a lag pay strategy, with starting offers typically between the minimum and midpoint of the pay grade, rarely reaching the maximum to support long-term growth within each position.

Pay grade 13 , (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed. Occasional travel between panhandle colleges required.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment, routinely uses standard office equipment (i.e. computers, phones, copy and fax machines, filing cabinets), as well as outdoor work at the station's broadcast towers, and is in a high traffic area with continual interruptions. Work may also be performed outside of the office, in high voltage environments, and with little to no supervision.
