Job Description
Summary
A scenic artist is responsible for creating 3D work for various exhibits and displays in museums, theme parks, water parks, aquariums, zoological exhibits, and other unique projects using sculpting, painting, carving, and fabricating skills. Applicants must submit a portfolio of previous work examples.

The hired candidate must have their own transportation for daily travel from home to job sites, and between lodging locations and job sites.
Location: Varies based on project assignment (within continental U.S.); Potential assignment locations include, but are not limited to, Reno, NV; Clifton Park, NY; Duluth, MN; and Tyler, TX
Shift: M - F 7am - 3:30pm; M - Th 6am - 4:30pm; T F 6am - 4:30pm; and other similar 1st shift combinations that vary based on job site requirements; possible overtime and weekend work
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create three-dimensional themed work for a range of projects including shotcrete rockwork.
- Create various paint finishes and renderings to enhance the visual appeal.
- Collaborate with designers, and team members to achieve project goals.
- Use a variety of tools and techniques, including welding, cutting, grinding, sanding, spraying, brushing, carving, and mixing.
- Develop master forms, molds, parts and color pallets to ensure project precision.
- Work projects from surface preparation to finishing touches.
- Maintain written and verbal documentation to track progress and details.
- Utilize basic hand tools such as tape measures, hammers, pliers, shovels, and rakes.
- Operate power tools, including drills, saws, handheld grinders.
- Strictly adhere to safety requirements and equipment guidelines.
- Follow all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill
- A combination of education and experience in artistic fabrication and construction, including carving and painting shotcrete rockwork.
- Proven ability to sculpt, paint, and fabricate theme projects.
- Strong reading and comprehension skills with effective communication abilities.
- Capacity to apply common sense to detailed instructions and handle standardized situations.
- Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints is preferred.
- Forklift and light equipment operations experience is a plus.
- OSHA/safety training is preferred.

Physical Demands
- Tasks involve handling, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Excellent vision including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Capacity to lift 70 lbs. from floor to waist, 90 lbs. from waist to chest, 25 lbs. from chest to overhead, carry 50 lbs. over a distance of 50 ft., push a 100 lbs. wheeled cart over a distance of 100 ft., and drag 50 lbs. over a distance of 100 ft.
Work Environment
- Exposed to typical construction noises, smells, fumes, airborne particles, and machinery.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
