Title: AV Systems Engineer
Compensation: Base salary $100k - $105k plus benefits, commensurate with experience
Location: 100% onsite in midtown Manhattan
Position Description:
Our client is looking for an AV and Media systems engineer who operates, maintains, and provides technical support for audiovisual and media systems at NYC's newest observatory. The individual will oversee a broad variety of cutting-edge exhibits featuring real time generative media systems and show controlled audio and lighting. They will serve as one of 3 full-time technology staff and work closely with the observatory's marketing and sales operations departments to facilitate all events and special programs activity.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees an array of audiovisual systems including an immersive theater, a large-scale media wall featuring real time user generated artwork, and audio/lighting show-controlled exhibit areas.
- Manages a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure systems are operating optimally and proactively monitored.
- Provides initial troubleshooting and break/fix for audiovisual systems, escalating to outside vendors - AV integrators, Software and content producers, and manufacturers - and tracking to resolution.
- Provides initial troubleshooting and response for Observatory operational systems (ticketing, admissions & visitor management, point of sale, souvenir photography, and more), supported by the operator's IT staff and equipment manufacturers/vendors.
- Tracks issues to resolution and together with Observatory staff, IT operations, AV integrators, and manufacturers develop lessons learned and a preventative plan to prevent or minimize re-occurrence.
- Assists Observatory marketing and sales operations teams with the planning and execution of events and special programs including:
- Needs assessment, communicating systems specifications and site logistics to clients, event firms, and rental companies.
- Customizing and preparing areas and systems of the observatory to meet event needs; overseeing outside vendors and rental companies' operation in the building and facilitating efficient setup, care, and appropriate use of house equipment.
- Where needed, operating, or overseeing the operation of the technology systems in the building to ensure the health of the equipment and success of the event.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated expertise with audio/visual technology, electronic media, computers, and other technologies described herein.
- Knowledge and experience operating networked audiovisual systems including laser projectors, LCD videowalls, Audio systems (audio DSPs, amplifiers, and speakers), high performance video processors, supervisory control systems, and more.
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot and identify root cause of issues and act to mitigate or resolve them.
- Ability to track and document issues - occurrence, path to resolution, and proactive maintenance/follow up - to improve overall uptime and long-term reliability.
- Knowledge of AV event workflows and requirements; experience operating or overseeing event audiovisual activities a plus.
- Basic knowledge and experience operating network enabled audiovisual equipment.
- Should have experience leading and motivating service-oriented teams.
Education:
- The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a related field and will have ideally worked in a best-in-class retail/hospitality environment
- Experience in lieu of degree may be considered.
