---- Job Details: Purpose The Communications Manager will play a key role in enhancing Moody College of Communication's public presence and internal community by creating and disseminating compelling brand journalism that supports Moody College of Communication's goals of elevating the brand, engaging key audiences, attracting and retaining talent, and garnering support for the college. Responsibilities Lead planning, research, production, and dissemination of compelling brand journalism working closely with the Marketing and Communication team. Identify and contribute editorial opportunities such as interesting research findings, faculty expertise, student experiences and work product and newsworthy events and stories. Interview subjects and create compelling content for multi-channel distribution including web, social media, e-newsletters, audio, reports, and videos. Identify and contribute creative approaches to crafting and promoting the stories of Moody College, its people and expertise through strong writing, editing and/or engaging digital content skills.

Write and edit newsletters, scripts, talking points and correspondence for various audiences by work cross-functionally with different teams, including Undergraduate Education and the dean to produce the speeches and script for graduation, including drafting and copyediting remarks, updating information from the past year and assisting in stage direction. Work with the development office to write the script and speeches for Friends of the College, including for the dean and presenters. Act as copyeditor and quality assurance for content produced by others in the college.

Manage the core Moody College website, using Drupal CMS, ensuring content, design and navigation meet user needs, express the Moody College brand, communicate important information and stay current and relevant. Manage SEO, develop and track KPIs and key metrics to improve website experience. Continually monitor web trends and look for ways to enhance and expand the college's online presence.

Manage storytelling interns and collaborate with other writers, photographers, videographers, designers, media relations specialists, and marketers to augment Moody College's storytelling enterprise.

Plan and implement weekly content and major projects aligned with Moody College communications strategy. Other related functions as assigned which may include coordinating special projects including the annual print and digital impact report and identifying and creating undergraduate, graduate and fundraising one-pagers. Must handle confidential and sensitive communications with discretion.

Serve as project manager for editorial content by assigning tasks and deliverables, and maintaining timely schedules for production of content.

Write press releases, identify media contacts, manage college experts guide, pitch key stories and respond to media inquiries.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree with major coursework in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or related field.

Five years of professional experience in journalistic writing and editing.

Strong team player who takes a proactive and creative approach to brand storytelling and the ability to make sound editorial judgments based on knowledge of readers' preferences, trending topics and good writing principles.

Keen attention to detail and stellar organizational skills.

Skilled at disseminating content in appropriate channels for optimum exposure and engagement with key audiences such as web, social media, news, email, and print.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously combined with attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work

Experience working with print, TV and digital news reporters.

Knowledge of AP Style and PR and/or marketing best practices.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, website content management, social media channels and other communications tools.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Seven years of professional experience with at least two years as a communications manager

Experience writing scripts and talking points for leadership.

Moody College of Communication graduate.

Familiarity with and passion for higher education and/or The University of Texas.

Experience planning or creating full range of story-telling methods including written, and multimedia content such as video, photography, infographics.

Successful experience as a professional interviewer, able to craft questions and conduct conversations in such a way as to elicit compelling responses and building trust with interview subject.

Preparation and maintenance of media lists and experience using media relations distribution tools such as Cision, Meltwater and others.

Salary Range $75,000 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Typical office environment
