Job Description
Summary
Our Land Development business line in South Austin is seeking a Senior Design Technician to join the team! With limited direction from engineering and other staff, the Senior Design Technician will lead the project design and plan production set up and coordinate the efforts of other design technicians to determine design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor catalogues. Uses AutoCAD and Civil 3D computer software packages to prepare detailed construction drawings and specifications used in planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Act as “lead designer” on Residential Subdivision and Commercial projects of non-routine or significantly complex scope. Work with project manager to determine complexity and schedule for completion.
• Coordinate the work of other Design Technicians in order to meet project budgets on assigned design tasks.
• Develop detailed engineering drawings related to site planning, water, wastewater and drainage utilities, traffic, roadway & paving design, site grading, erosion control, & stormwater management facilities.
• Leverages extensive experience with specific design duties to independently complete design work. Such work typically includes the completion of standard engineering calculations utilizing significant judgment.
• Complete detailed drawings from rough sketches and/or verbal instructions or notes independently.
• Plot maps and charts showing profiles and cross-sections.
• Participate in design meetings with engineering and client staff to fully understand expected project outcomes.
• May participate in the preparation of marketing materials.
• Potentially accompany survey crew or field technicians as needed in order to locate grading markers, collect data required for revision of construction drawings, and/or perform engineering tests.
• Work with company developed CADD standards in order to establish projects in a manner, which increases the ability of other technicians or location personnel to assist with project design.
• Acts as a local expert to assist less experienced CAD staff develop necessary software and design skills.
Education and Experience
• Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school plus seven or more years of related experience and/or training in design. Excellent AutoCAD and Civil 3D software skills are a must.
• Ability to read and interpret documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees, managers, and vendors.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Benefits
