Design Department Manager

The Design Department Manager will manage the day-to-day activities of the organization's operation. The role will implement company policies, procedures, and initiatives and evaluate to enhance current operational systems. The role will establish operational goals and develop reporting and auditing processes used to measure operational effectiveness. The role will oversee the analysis and review of budgets and schedules of the operation and will manage and advise team members. The role will identify and define future business growth opportunities and will collaborate with other departments to share resources and equipment. This role is located in Allen Park, MI.
As a Design Department Manager, you will:
- Manage the Design Department activities including financial management, P&L, forecasting/management of staffing, facility, CAD equipment and licensing, customer satisfaction and general administrative responsibilities
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance including productivity, quality, and goal setting
- Set strategic long and short-term operational goals and evaluate performance
- Develop business projections on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
- Ensure compliance to Quality System procedures and work instructions
- Work with the Business Development Team and others within the company to pursue sales opportunities to grow revenue stream
To be considered for as a Design Department Manager, you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or 10 years of proven relevant experience in a similar leadership role
- Minimum 10 years of design or engineering supervisory experience managing a group of employees.
- Experience leading a program team with CAD resources (reviewing design tasks, timing, resources required and status to plan, design issue resolution, etc.)
- Experience in program management including risk analysis and performance to budget
- Experience maintaining current and developing new customer relationships
- Experience with cost estimating, quoting, and negotiating including the creation of formal quotations for both internal & external customers
- Experience utilizing automotive/other industries’ PDP (Product development process)
- Knowledge in various CAD software systems, PLM packages, and design procedures
- Advanced organizational skills, including the ability to identify and assemble teams to manage and execute programs
- Advanced interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Advanced computer skills and knowledge in MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
