Due to MSG's continued growth in our Civil/Municipal Division, a new opening is available for a Civil Design Project Manager in our Detroit, MI offices!

Primary Responsibilities

The Civil Design Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and execution of civil engineering projects from conception to completion. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency in civil engineering principles and strong project management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and according to specifications.

Responsibilities include:
  • Leading the planning and conceptual design phase of civil engineering projects, including site analysis, feasibility studies, and cost estimation.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets in collaboration with stakeholders and clients.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and subcontractors to ensure alignment with project objectives and requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise in civil engineering design, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Oversee the development of engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Review and approve design plans to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, codes, and project requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders, maintaining regular communication and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Monitor project progress, budget, and schedule, identifying and mitigating risks and issues as they arise.
  • Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers, and technicians, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members, ensuring their understanding of project objectives and expectations.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
  • 8+ years' of experience in design and plan preparation, with at least 4 years of site development projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Landscape Architecture, preferably working as a licensed Professional Engineer or Landscape Architect.
  • Experience with industry design standards, guidelines and specifications (i.e., City of Detroit and surrounding counties, MDOT, and etc.) and knowledge of AutoCad/Civil 3D grading is expected.
  • Proficiency in independent preparation of Hydraulic/Hydrologic reports, Roadway design and survey experience is a plus.
  • The ability to engage reviewing agencies while preparing technical designs and addressing comments is a critical part of our process. The ideal candidate will be comfortable communicating and coordinating with review agencies.
