Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with clients, utility companies, government agencies, and/or the general public to identify project constraints and develop site design alternatives and concepts for vertical construction projects.
  • Coordinates with diverse project teams including planners, architects, engineers, contractors and permitting agencies to develop project designs.
  • Prepares plans, specifications, and construction estimates for site improvements including:
    • Preparing studies including drainage analysis and traffic impact analysis.
    • Design of site layout, grading, drainage, curb and gutter, and stormwater runoff management.
    • Design of parking lots, driveways, striping, and access points.
    • Design of site utilities, including storm water, water, and wastewater.
    • Design of site amenities including dumpster pads, ramps, stairs, railings, hydrants, and other similar features.
  • Works with permitting agency staff to meet local code requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering concepts and practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with UFC, IBC, and IFC and local code and other site development design criteria.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or similar degree required
  • Licensed professional engineering license in Alaska or Washington or ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with multi-discipline engineering staff at various experience levels.
  • Desire to mentor junior staff to develop capabilities and career goals.
  • Ability to market the firm’s and individual’s capabilities to expand client base and enhance relationships with current clients.


Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
