Job Description:
The Department of Art and the Graphic and Visual Communication Design Program invites applications for a Professorial Lecturer in Graphic Design, subject to subsequent renewal upon administrative approval. Rank may be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment will commence in the Spring 2025 semester and continue through Academic Year 2025-2026.
An MFA in Graphic Design or equivalent terminal degree in a closely associated field is highly preferred, although candidates with a bachelor's degree in design and relevant professional experience are encouraged to apply. The committee will give preference to applicants with professional and teaching experience. Teaching responsibilities will include teaching at all levels in the undergraduate graphic design curriculum, student advising and mentoring women and minority students. The candidate must have a solid foundation in design principles, be able to teach interactive, web and product design and be current in prevalent coding and styling languages. Experience with motion graphics, AR, or other design environments is desirable; occasional teaching of traditional media graphic design courses can be expected. The ideal candidate will have professional experience or a research background in one or more of the following: UX design, design for mobile technologies, interactive interfaces, information visualization, physical computing and wearable technologies. Familiarity with new digital design trends and practices is expected. General awareness of current issues in design, the demands of the professional field and the tools, technologies and resources inherent to the discipline, as well as being able to contribute through service to the design program and the department of art. The position will require the incumbent to teach three undergraduate courses per semester in Graphic and Visual Communication Design, including, but not limited to, GDES-270 Design for Understanding, GDES-220 Digital and Emerging Media Design I, and GDES-315 Digital and Emerging Media Design II. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary range is between $68,000 - $72,000. Applications will be reviewed beginning August 23rd and continue until the position is filled. Please submit applications via Workday. Applications should include:
