Position Purpose
McAdams is seeking a Senior Project Manager for our growing Roadway Design practice located in our Charlotte office. This position will be leading the planning and design of multimodal roadway facilities for public and private clients. Projects will include feasibility studies and facility design including roadways, sidepaths/multi-use paths, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, cycle tracks and other facilities. The ideal candidate will be able to take a project from conception through completion or bidding while leading a project team while also managing clients' needs and sub consultants. This position will be responsible for maintaining project schedules, ensuring high quality deliverables at project milestones, performing quality control on their projects as well as other projects, and participating in project administration tasks such as invoicing and billing.
Essential Functions + Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality projects on-time and on-budget to our clients.
- Design, review, and oversee production of plans, contract documents, specifications and costs estimates suitable for publicly bid projects.
- Design, review, and oversee production plans for offsite roadway improvements to public roads associated with private development projects.
- Project management to include developing, monitoring, and adhering to scopes, fees, and schedules for both public projects and for offsite roadway improvements for private development projects.
- Coordinate with other McAdams' service lines (geomatics, water resources, etc.) to develop project plans. Effectively manage subconsultants.
- Lead field reviews of projects to support alignment development and recommendations.
- Advance projects through feasibility analysis, to design, permitting, and successful bidding.
- Oversee design, technical analyses, and engineering calculations and prepare plans, submittal packages and permitting applications.
- Focus on quality project delivery through adherence to McAdams' quality assurance and quality control standards.
- Lead and execute public outreach and community engagement efforts.
- Participate in business development activities including development of detailed proposal materials. Develop an understanding of key client's program and develop personal client relationships. Develop and maintain relationships with key teaming partners.
- Supervise and coach/mentor junior staff.
- Actively participate in professional organizations. Attend/present at industry conferences.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering or transportation or a related field
- North Carolina PE required
- 10+ years of experience in transportation design for public sector clients
- Experience in managing projects
- Knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/Geopack/OpenRoads production workflows
- Interest in multimodal transportation issues and design
- Consistent focus on clarity, accuracy, and completeness of work product
- Strong critical thinking abilities
- Excellent task and time management skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Enjoys working within a high performing team.
- Experience supervising junior staff
- Active participation in relevant professional organizations a plus
- Experience presenting at industry conferences a plus
- Knowledge of AASHTO, NCDOT and NC municipal guidelines, standards and procedures
- Valid driver's license
