For more than a century, Griffin® has been the proven leader in railroad wheel quality, design and service. We currently have an opening for a Designer in our Overland Park, KS office reporting into our Technical Services department and provide support to our Wheel facilities in US and Canada.
Principle Accountabilities
Chief administrator of SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM) repository for engineering drawing change management and revision control.
Provide training in the use of PDM standards.
Assist a team of engineering staff to design components, parts and assemblies to create engineering drawings, engineering change orders, bills of materials, and other related engineering documentation.
Designs and creates 2-Dimensional (2D) layouts (AutoCad) of equipment and structures as well as maintain existing 2D engineering drawings.
Designs and creates 3-Dimensional (3D) models (SolidWorks) of equipment components and assemblies as well as maintain existing 3D engineering drawings.
Plans, coordinates, develops and procures new concepts and designs for equipment to facilitate the implementation of new and revised machinery into the core manufacturing processes.
Applies necessary Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance and uses a combination of technical judgment and past experience to evaluate various designs while maintaining and supporting current operations.
The work typically involves fixtures, machinery, and layouts, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic engineering.
Creates and reviews engineering drawings and documents that conform to company and industry drawing standards.
Job Knowledge/Skills and Experience Preferred: 3+ years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or similar
Minimum requirement: Associates' degree in Engineering Technology or similar Proficient in SolidWorks (3D) or Inventor (3D)
Proficient in AutoCad (2D)
Understanding of industry design & documentation standards (GD&T, Change Control, etc.)
Knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook; SolidWorks PDM desired
Ability to travel for operations and facilities support
