Position: Project Designer
Reports To: Senior Project Designer
Classification: Exempt

Summary
Project Designer- Works independently on all phases of architecture projects with a particular aptitude in design. Performs a variety of project assignments requiring skills in all conventional aspects of architectural design for projects of moderate to large size and complexity. Advances architectural concepts and design solutions in alignment with client's design intent and project concept vision.
Essential Functions :
Responsible to develop conceptual design alternatives under limited guidance from the Senior Project Designer
Foster design excellence in assigned projects, including investigation, evaluation, and recommendation of design solutions that best align with client's design goals and vision
Evaluates and integrates collected research, ideas, data, and concepts. Leads team in organization and development of conceptual framework for the project
Perform analyses of existing conditions related to design, planning, occupancy studies, and design layouts
Review program and scope definition
Provides direction to consultants regarding coordination and refinement of critical areas of design
Initiates and coordinates meetings with client, project team, consultants, and contractors to ensure collaboration and communication.
Provide oversight, and review planning of construction documents and design documents to ensure appropriate integration and representation of project design concepts, goals, and objectives
Reviews project reports, estimates, calculations, and specifications with specific focus on implications and representation for critical areas of design
May perform construction administration duties, such as site visits, RFI responses, submittal reviews, and punch list reviews related to critical areas of design
Review of finished plans and coordination of specifications related to critical areas of design. Selection and approval of exterior materials palette
Organizes and facilitates design team’s work, ideation and charrette sessions
Competencies:
Strong conceptual design and schematic design skills
Strong analytical approach with excellent problem-solving skills
Possess quality graphic composition and layout skills
Proficiency in Revit required. General understanding of AutoCAD helpful
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suites required (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Proficiency in Sketchup and/or Rhino required. Rendering in Lumion, Enscape, and V-Ray is required
Working knowledge of zoning and building codes, specifications, building/engineering systems, and agency requirements (NPFA, ADAAG, FGI, OBC, IBC, etc)
Possess a balanced blend of design and technical skills
Strong knowledge of the design process, and development of contract documentation. Familiar with practices and methods of the construction administration process
Proficient verbal and written communication skills
Completes assignments for scheduled deadlines while working within the project budget
Proficient organizational and client presentation skills
Committed to provide high quality client service
Possess a collaborative and professional work ethic
Certification Requirements
Architecture License preferred
Supervisory Requirements
May provide supervision for project associates or interns
Work Environment
This position operates in a professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office provides collaborative work areas and shared resources such as video conferencing, printing/scanning, and a café for dining. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures, wind, dust, and noise levels and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.
Physical Demands
Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week
Ability to lift a set of construction documents
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Position Type/Hours expected to work
This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week
Travel
Possible occasional travel depending on project assignments
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture required (accredited university preferred)
Master of Architecture preferred
A minimum of six years experience in architectural design related practice or equivalent
