Job Title: CAD Designer

Classification: Salary, Full Time, Exempt

Department: Engineering

Location: Kearny, New Jersey

Direct Supervisor: Engineering Manager

Job Summary: The CAD Designer utilizes software to provide support to Engineering and Operations by preparing routine and detailed layouts for various disciplines including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, piping, and as-built drawings. They create Front End Engineering Drawings (FEED), support regulatory maintenance of drawings through routine reviews, and store drawings in the form of up-to-date drawing history within the company filing system, all while adhering to corporate technical standards. The CAD Designer has a solid understanding of drafting techniques, design layouts, and engineering terminology. Additionally, they possess mechanical aptitude and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Create CAD drawings for engineering projects.
  • Generate and revise project drawings, layouts, and elevation plans.
  • Prepare final sketches of proposed drawings, ensuring accurate dimensions of parts, materials to be used, the relationship of one part to another, and how various parts fit into the overall structure or project.
  • Apply knowledge of process equipment, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and physical sciences to complete drawings.
  • Draft detailed multi-view drawings of processes, including isometric views.
  • Translate sketches into finished designs.
  • Maintain strong attention to detail to ensure drawings meet specifications accurately.
  • Update Drafting and Engineering standards as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk, AutoCAD, and AutoCAD Plant 3D.
  • Proficiency in Revit is a plus.
  • Advanced 2D and 3D drafting skills, including the ability to create detailed technical drawings and complex models.
  • Strong analytical and visualization skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Must be able to pass a 10-panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA’s TWIC criteria.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to company sites as needed for project work.
  • Standard working hours are consistent across all facilities, which may necessitate adjusted commute start times.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to work on elevated surfaces and open grated structures.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test for the use of an SCBA.
  • Work environment frequently changes from office settings to standing, climbing, and working in a plant environment under varying weather and climate conditions.
