SeamonWhiteside is in search of an ambitious and talented professional to serve as a Civil Designer II in our growing Charleston, SC Office.

The Civil Designer II will focus on managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. The Civil Designer II's responsibilities will include effective client management and preparation of plans for land development projects - including hydrology and hydraulic studies, reports, site plans, grading and utility plans, erosion control plans, and roadway design.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor's or associate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college/university preferred

Experience: 1 - 3 years of civil design experience

Essential Job Functions
  • Development of client contact skills
  • Develop the understanding and knowledge of civil design as well as SW+ design, computer, general office standards
  • Contributes to and supports the engineering team in master planning, engineering design, and research for specific project tasks
  • Perform complete quantity take-offs and cost estimates of designs
  • Assist engineers and project managers in the analysis of proposed and current projects
  • Prepare civil design drawings under the direction of senior engineering staff
  • Perform hydraulic system calculations, pipe design calculations, and engineering reports (Drainage Report, Water Calculation Reports, and Project Narratives)
  • Prepare comment response letter for agency resubmittals
  • Attend pre-construction meetings and site visits with senior Construction Administration personnel
  • Work to expand experience in witnessing installation, testing and inspections of site infrastructure systems (sewer/water system testing, proof rolls, SWPPP inspections, etc.)
  • Review and comment on project shop drawings and material submittals
  • Perform construction observations and field reports

Desired Skills
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred
  • Experience with drafting using AutoCAD
  • Ability to coordinate with outside consultants involved in projects (surveyors, traffic consultants, architects, geotechnical engineers, MEP engineers, wetland consultants, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of necessary permitting processes for projects across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to mentor fellow civil designers, technicians, and interns
  • Ability to manage multiple project tasks
  • Working knowledge of design software (ICPR, WaterCAD, Civil 3D, SEDCAD, HEC-RAS, Hydra flow Express, Storm Sewers, MicroStation, Geopak, Inroads, IDEAL model)
  • Working knowledge of agency regulations and design standards for specific projects across multiple jurisdictions
  • Ability to self-perform QA/QC reviews on work and better understand civil and landscape drawings
  • Efficiently prepare CAD Base Sheet Drawings from drawing files provided by surveyor
  • Efficiently prepare civil plan sheets sets for construction drawings with emphasis of proper plan presentation
  • Ability to prepare Preliminary Plats, Site plans, SWPPP plans, Grading/Drainage plans, Water/Sewer Plans, Profiles (road/water/sewer/drainage), and construction details
  • Understanding of civil project specifications and production
  • Demonstrate consistent achievement of SW+ billable goals
  • A valid driver's license
