About the Role
Dates TBD based on Production Schedule for - times are flexible (Monday-Friday, 9am-9pm - based on stage availability and Saturdays, times vary) Must be available for costume fittings, all tech rehearsals and performances
The Costume Designer and Coordinator interacts with and responds to students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members in ways that demonstrates their alignment and agreement with the district's equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12: Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity.
Essential Skills and Responsibilities:
Meet with Artistic Director to share vision, research and ideas
Read the script and score thoroughly to understand the story, themes and, characters
Meet with Directors to review casting, doubles, additional needs in show and ensembles
Take careful inventory of what BRAVO has in stock before purchasing. Responsible for sourcing costumes/costume items and/or repurposing current costume pieces to stay within budget. Pull, repurpose, build, shop and delegate.
Manage your budget - turn in all receipts within 48 hours or purchase.
Responsible for all aspects of a costume rental package - if needed
Coordinates and manages parent volunteers and student wardrobe crew.
Coordinates, communicates, and manages costume assistant, if assigned
Be organized. Communicate with Production Manager, Artistic Director and BRAVO office weekly costume schedule
Communicate fittings schedule especially lunches 72 hours in advance; and update the google schedule as needed
Maintain a clean and orderly costume shop, props loft and booths. Tidy, clean and organize work areas daily - includes restocking of any items pulled and not used
Coordinate hair, wigs and makeup for each character
Prepare for an efficient Costume Parade, communicate needs and take detailed notes
All alterations to be made prior to first tech
Prepare for tech week, review call times with Director. Responsible for all costumes during Technical Rehearsals and all Performances.
Direct volunteers and wardrobe crew backstage to assist with costume changes as needed.
Responsible for managing the striking/sorting of costumes after the final show
Responsible for restocking all costume items (includes but not limited to clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry etc.) Restocking happens one week after final performance
This job requires flexible hours
Candidate Qualifications: Able to sew and alter clothing/ costumes to fit students in production
Able to design, coordinate and build a vision for the costumes based on/in coordination with the vision and aesthetic of Director for production
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the performance of light work-which may require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. The position includes close visual acuity, frequent talking, hearing, walking and standing, occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is performed in non-hazardous environments and a clean atmosphere.
