Recognized as a Best Place to Work in Baton Rouge by Baton Rouge Business Report, J H Operating Company, LLC, an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management firm primarily supporting the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry, has an opening in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a Lead Piping Designer.
The Designer will be expected to perform pipe design layouts and material take-off of systems and installations requiring a high degree of familiarity with design and construction techniques, codes and materials, equipment and costs in industry.
These activities will be in support of new capital industrial infrastructure projects such as central tank batteries, large central gathering stations, oil terminals, and saltwater disposals. This role and skill set is key in expanding JH’s services to the industry.
Primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Responsible for design and layout of projects.
- Isometric and orthogonal extraction from models.
- Learning and following the version control procedures.
- Checking 3D models for P&ID compliance.
- Reviews and checks design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality.
- Adhere to required processes and embrace opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Provide feedback and support to our project teams from actual project experience.
- Occasionally advise, assist, and direct drafting personnel of a lesser grade in performing their assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- 12 -15 years’ experience.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and AutoDesk Plant 3D
- 3D modeling design experience and understanding of 3D modeling best practices/procedures.
- Advanced knowledge of piping and components (manual valves, specialty valves, fittings, etc.)
- Ability to perform field design activities such as P&ID walk downs, as-builts for the model, etc.
- Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical equipment when reviewing vendor drawings.
- Able to read and understand pipe specifications sheets.
- Strong background in oil & gas or petrochemical plants preferred.
- Familiarity with: API, ASME and ANSI standards.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- BlueBeam and/or Adobe commenting tools for redlining drawings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interact effectively with project team members and other staff.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Ability to pass an in-depth background check and drug screening.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Long hours may be necessary as workload dictates. This may include weekdays, weekends and/or holidays.
- Work will generally be performed at the office in Baton Rouge.
- Travel time is expected to be less than 10%
Preferred:
· 10 years Autodesk Plant 3D experience
· Strong background in oil & gas or petrochemical plants
