Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Distribution Designer to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and preparing electrical distribution projects, ensuring high-quality standards, and adhering to industry guidelines. You will work closely with engineers and project managers to develop effective solutions for overhead and underground utility distribution systems. The ideal candidate has a strong background in distribution design, familiarity with industry software, and the ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical distribution systems for overhead and underground utilities in compliance with utility standards and regulations.
Prepare detailed construction plans, work orders, and material lists for distribution projects.
Perform load calculations, voltage drop calculations, and coordination studies for distribution networks.
Utilize software tools such as AutoCAD, GIS systems, and specialized distribution design software.
Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and utility clients to ensure projects meet technical specifications and timelines.
Conduct site visits (as needed) to gather data for design development.
Ensure designs comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and company protocols.
Provide technical support during construction, answering queries and assisting in problem resolution.
Continuously update design skills and stay current with new technologies and methodologies in distribution design.
Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
4-5 years of experience in distribution design (overhead and underground).
Proficient in industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS, and utility-specific design tools).
Strong understanding of utility distribution standards, safety codes, and industry best practices.
Experience working with various voltage levels and load calculation methodologies.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting with minimal supervision.
Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with remote teams and clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with multiple utility companies and understanding different regional regulations.
Professional certifications in distribution design or engineering (e.g., NESC, PE).
Familiarity with advanced distribution management systems (ADMS) or other related technologies.
