POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Editor provides comprehensive editing, consultation, and resource services for paper-and-pencil and computer-based test items and test-related materials. The materials are of a difficult, sensitive, and complex nature for which independent judgment is required.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edit and/or correlate a variety of test items and test-related materials in a wide range of subject areas

  • Ensure consistency of style and/or correlations, accuracy of content and/or matches, and the highest overall editorial quality

  • Interact with assessment specialists and independent consultants in all subject matter fields for which ETS develops testing materials

  • Act as a liaison with assessment specialists and other staff to achieve excellence of materials by maintaining test consistency standards and open communication

  • Act as the primary resource for assessment specialists and other staff on matters of grammar, ETS style, syntax, content, and fairness, and content correlations

  • Perform fairness reviews on test items and test-related materials

  • Participate fully in group meetings and engage in all aspects of teamwork within the division

  • Represent the editors at program-specific meetings, work on task forces, committees, and other groups as necessary

  • Establish constructive, on-going, and high-level rapport with all levels of staff

  • Organize, track, and schedule the correlations workload to meet delivery dates and budget requirements

  • Assist, when necessary, in the orientation and training of new editors and support staff

  • Adhere to ethical standards and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to your job function



EDUCATION

Bachelor degree in English, Journalism, or a closely related field is required.

EXPERIENCE

5 years of experience in writing and/or editing are required.

Other Requirements:

  • Strong grammar and editing skills

  • Demonstrated familiarity with a wide range of subject areas, including, but not limited to, biology, history, and chemistry, social studies and language

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills

  • Proven ability to produce quality work with expedited timelines

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
