Job Description
Position Overview
Under general supervision, performs full range of technical editing duties in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Typical job responsibilities are to assist and support management in technical editing, word processing, and document production.
The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned:
- Editing and reviewing documents, reports, news releases, presentations, and letters for organization, content, and style in accordance with the rules of standard English grammar and punctuation.
- Reviewing documents, reports, and outgoing correspondence to ensure accuracy and proper format.
- Formatting documents, reports, and forms using advanced features of standard word processing systems or software applications listed above.
- Managing electronic files while maintaining version control.
- Inserting reviewers' comments and developing a red-line strikeout of documents.
- Copying, preparing, and distributing reports for internal, DOE, or regulator distribution.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
- Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner.
- Actively participates in Safety Work Groups.
Other Experience and Skills
- Extensive knowledge in the use of grammatical rules, spelling, and punctuation.
- Preferred experience in editing administrative and technical documents for grammar and punctuation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Professional, and knowledgeable of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a proficient manner.
- Ability to learn quickly and function in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities is a must.
- Ability to work with a flexible schedule is a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- BS degree in English.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must possess a DOE "L" clearance or the ability to obtain a DOE "L" Clearance.
Working Conditions
Works in an office environment at a normal environmental restoration atmosphere (outdated and/or abandoned facilities). Potential exposure to equipment movement hazards, dangerous chemicals/solvents or hazardous and radioactive materials if proper safety procedures are not followed.
Ability to perform sedentary to light work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally (any exertion of force/lifting greater than 45 pounds requires usage of a two person "buddy system"), non-repetitive, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly, repetitive; performing such activities as lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, grasping, kneeling, stooping, reaching.
Ability to perform primary office duties including heavy computer usage.
In some cases radiological training may be required.
