General Job Description:

ABC57 News is looking for a journalist driven by a passion for the public’s right to know. Our photogs are not just video shooters, they’re video journalists. The ideal candidate should know how to properly light, frame, and get quality audio for an interview. They should be able to work on tight deadlines, or long-term projects. In addition, they should be able to shoot and edit video in sequences. ABC57 is an award-winning newsroom focused on delivering impactful local news and storytelling. We are committed to gathering responsible, meaningful stories that make a difference in our community, not just “content.” We expect our photojournalists to be kind, collaborative team players in the newsroom.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Shooting VOs, VOSOTs, and PKGs for on-air and online

- Gathering daily news video and video for special projects

- Working collaboratively with a reporter or anchor on a story

- Working independently on a story

- Asks important questions during interviews

- Troubleshoots technical issues with camera and microphone equipment

- Edits video and packaged stories for air using non-linear editing software

- Takes notes on news events or interviews for a producer, reporter, or anchor to write from

- Follows assignment instructions from the desk, producers, or news managers

- Other duties, as assigned

Requirements:

- Must have a valid driver’s license

- Knows how to use non-linear editing software

- Knows the basics of photography and videography

- Knows how to use a video camera

- Must be willing to work late nights or early mornings, and sometimes weekends

- Strong computer literacy, including how to file paths work and how to navigate catalog systems

- Ability to stand for long periods of time

- Ability to carry and hold heavy objects
