Gulfshore Business seeks a senior writer/editor to work with our editorial team, providing coverage of the Southwest Florida business community. The ideal candidate should understand the Fort Myers/Lee County business landscape and the importance of local community news with the ability to write clean copy on deadline that’s accurate, thorough, concise and thought provoking.
Responsibilities:
-Meet daily, monthly deadlines
-Pursue exclusive content on a variety of topics from real estate to education to government
-Develop long-form enterprise and investigative pieces
-Cultivate and maintain a network of sources and relationships with key players in our communities
-Dig underneath the words of city/county government agendas to find what’s really coming up at government meetings
-Attend city/county government meetings
The ideal candidate will have:
-A bachelor’s degree and seven-plus years of experience working in daily or weekly newsroom environments
-Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to produce content that is fair, accurate and thorough
-Talent for identifying fresh angles on the news of the day, consistently pitching fresh, creative approaches that gives the “daily” story more perspective
-A demonstrated ability to dig deeper into important stories with a thirst for digging through documents and building sources
-A willingness to tackle any assignment from features and enterprise to government and business
-An understanding of both the limitations of immediacy and advantages of long-range issues for monthly publications
