Title: Planner III

Location: Santa Clara, CA,

Responsible for obtaining materials, components, and equipment for R&D and NPI. Gathers quotations, examines bids, and makes awards. Determines material requirements from engineering schedules, plans, and monitors the movement of materials through the engineering cycle. Evaluates vendor reliability, develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate. Monitors cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontractors to assure best quality at best value.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead all Material Planning activities in support of assigned pursuits, proposals and programs.
  • Coordinate material requirements with production, purchasing, engineering, and program management departments.
    Plan, schedule, and acquire material required to support program production build schedules.
  • Evaluate material shortages and determine appropriate inventory levels.
  • Evaluate material status reports, identify and/or resolve material constraints, and routinely provide material status to the program team.
  • Manage vendors to ensure on-time delivery and to find ways to expedite deliveries where required.
  • Plan, schedule, and manage the materials for delivering time-critical components to support prototype, engineering, and pre-production builds.
  • Develop purchase requests and work with supply chain to ensure POs are approved and placed; incoming components are received and kitted.
  • Generate status tracking means and provide materials readiness summaries to engineering and program teams.
  • Work fluidly in a highly cross-functional team environment involving manufacturing and product development teams, as well as supply chain specialists, manufacturing engineers, and logistics personnel.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and Engineering to coordinate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to plan for material
  • Manage design-to-production transitions of new product designs and manage engineering change incorporation on assigned product lines.
  • Work with Planning BOMs and purchase requisitions
  • Other duties as assigned

Compensation: $110,000-125,000, depending on experience

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Computer Skills and/or Tools: MS Office and in-depth knowledge of MRP software is preferred.

Qualifications/Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Five (5) years experience working with Material Requirement systems preferably in high volume, R&D, NPI environments managing material to meet engineering schedules for electro-mechanical products.
  • CPIM/CPM certificate is highly desirable.
  • Proven negotiation skills and the ability to comprehend spec. sheets and blueprints.
  • A thorough understanding of the manufacturing flow and process is desirable.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Advanced knowledge of MRP and planning tools is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities, stay organized, and pay attention to details in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) is preferred, but not required

Education: High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
