Late Night Library Specialist Job at Jobleads-US in Palo Alto

Jobleads-US, Palo Alto, CA, United States

Please include a cover letter and resume.

This position works full-time on-site and is not eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

This is a 3-year fixed-term position.

Stanford Libraries is seeking a full-time Late Night Library Specialist. The Specialist primarily oversees the late night study space in Green Library to ensure that it has an atmosphere conducive for studying and research. The Specialist performs limited book circulation for books on hold or in the course reserves collection, provides users with information about library resources, services and policies, and performs material processing activities at the service desk.

This position is unique in having owl-shift hours (12:00 A.M to - 8:30 A.M. Monday- Fridays/overnight Sundays-Thursdays) and because of the overall limited staffing of the space during that time (3 people total), great attendance is required of the Specialist and scheduled time off will need to be planned well in advance and may be limited to non-peak weeks.

About Stanford Libraries:

Libraries values are rooted in a commitment of mutual respect, the idea that every member of the staff has something to contribute, and that learning is constant. We seek a team member who is ready to share their skills and perspectives.

Stanford Libraries is a network of over 15 libraries with over 400 employees. We are committed to fueling the teaching, learning and research across Stanford by acquiring, stewarding, and making available a robust collection, currently more than 12 million items. Everyone in the organization plays a vital role in fulfilling that objective.

About the Position:

The Library Specialist primarily oversees activities in the late night study space in Green Library to ensure it remains a productive environment for Stanford students.

The Specialist will begin their shift working alongside the evening team that is ending their shift, by helping secure the parts of the library that are closing, and ensuring only Stanford patrons remain in the late night study space. Then, the Specialist will monitor space use, assist users with basic inquiries and equipment troubleshooting, perform limited check-out of course reserves items, process returned books and provide information about library resources, services and policies.

Additionally, the Specialist will perform a variety of library project work from the service desk, such as: scanning book chapters/articles to make PDFs, bundling and processing magazines to send to the commercial binder, compiling or entering statistics, transcribing handwritten text, and creating finding aids for a collection.

If building alarms or incidents occur, the Specialist will respond according to department procedures. A public safety officer (or contracted security) will generally be available on-site, but staff may be relied upon to engage emergency services, help with alarm resolution, or contact 24-hr facilities support or library administrators.

This role leans on strong communication skills for attentive and welcoming customer service and supervision of the study space. A proactive work habit, strong use of office applications, and a positive stance toward teamwork will make this a productive contributor.
