POSITION SUMMARY:

The Digital Media Manager is a creative professional responsible for developing communication strategies and executing communication plans in support of Westminster University’s strategic initiatives. This role serves as a brand champion for Westminster, managing all @WestminsterSLC social channels as well as all photography and videography direction for use on social, web, and print. This position reports to the Director of Communications and works within the Office of Marketing, Communications, and Events, and supervises and mentors student employees and interns.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Content Strategy & Planning

  • Create an annual comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with university goals and audience needs. Platforms currently include Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Threads, and X.
  • Proactively plan a weekly and monthly content calendar to organize priority strategic content, trends, and event tie-ins for flagship channels.

Content Creation & Curation

  • Serve as a primary content creator on campus, able to respond quickly to on-campus events and happenings.
  • Provide live social media coverage for key university events (e.g., Convocation, Commencement, and other key events throughout the year).
  • Oversee 2-4 student employees who create visual content, including photos, videos, graphics, and Stories/Reels for social platforms. Edit and provide feedback and revisions.
  • Ensure that all content is high quality, cohesive, and resonates with our branding.
  • Curate and share relevant user-generated content (UGC) and develop strategies for procuring UGC.
  • Serve as an expert on emerging social trends, new platform updates, etc.

Branding and Marketing

  • As a brand champion, rigorously maintain visual style, tone, and composition across all digital platforms to ensure consistency with Westminster’s brand guidelines, including steering campus partners towards brand alignment.
  • Oversee the selection and curation of visual assets, ensuring they align with brand guidelines and appeal to target audiences.

Campus Collaboration & Training

  • Serve as a campus leader on social media, collaborating with faculty, staff, alumni, and students to ensure content is aligned with university-wide priorities and brand guidelines.
  • Educate campus partners on social media strategies, tactics, and best practices.
  • Monitor and maintain registry of social media accounts for campus colleges, departments, and programs.

Community Management

  • Serve as a community manager, engaging with followers, responding to comments and messages.
  • Monitor conversations related social media channels and elevate concerns as appropriate.

Analytics & Reporting

  • Track social media analytics (engagement, growth, reach, etc.) to inform strategy and make mid-stream adjustments as needed.
  • Support the Director of Communications with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on social performance.

Photography & Asset Management

  • Filter photography requests from campus stakeholders and coordinate photoshoots as needed between student photographers or outside photography contractors.
  • Serve as an on-campus photographer for a limited number of key events and institutional priority initiatives.
  • When applicable, lightly edit incoming raw photography for final use by the Office of Marketing, Communications, and Events.
  • Organize and manage the digital photo library system, ensuring files are labeled, tagged, and categorized.
  • Upload new photos regularly and create a structured, searchable archive for different departments and users, managing access and permissions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.
  • Four years of professional experience in related work as a social media manager.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
  • Expert-level experience working across and creating content for various social media platforms.
  • Experience with social media management and content creation for a brand, organization, or public figure.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and style.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative creative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and set priorities.
  • Experience with common digital media tools, specifically email platforms, Microsoft Office suite, photo editing software, project management software, iOS and Android apps, and Sprout Social.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expert-level content creation, photography, and/or video production skills are a major plus.
  • Working knowledge of AP Style and Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms and creating content for an institution of higher education.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision of assigned staff and/or student positions as detailed in the Supervisor Handbook.
  • May be designated as essential personnel in cases of campus closure or emergency.
  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
