Social Media, Communications, & Design Manager — Kindness Farm Position Type: 5-10 hours per week Location: Primarily remote Pay: $25/hr – contracted position Reports to: Executive Director About Kindness Farm Kindness Farm is an immigrant, refugee and queer led 501c3 educational, regenerative community farm in SE Portland, Oregon, east of the 205. We’re a community-run farm that provides the experience of growing food and tending land for kids, adults, and seniors. We focus on environmental literacy and teach regenerative, holistic methods that heal the earth, preserve habitat, promote biodiversity, sequester carbon, and create climate resilience. Alongside our educational programming, we grow a large amount of fresh, nutrient-dense produce which is provided, at no cost, to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity in our community through partner organizations. We work with an array of groups: school kids from marginalized groups, immigrant and refugee groups, and queer and neurodivergent community members – to name a few. We have meaningful strategic partnerships with the city, the local school district, and other well-established organizations. In the last 4 years we’ve… Provided environmental, regenerative education and the experience of growing food to 4,827 children, adults, and seniors. Engaged a large, committed community of volunteers to create a resilient, healing space with 24,367 volunteer hours. Grown nutritious, healthy produce for over 73,812 meals, produce-boxes, and free food pantries. Over 50% of our produce goes to Black and Hispanic households, and 1st and 2nd generation immigrants. We work with historically underrepresented communities: immigrants & refugees, LGBTQIIA2S+, Black, Indigenous, and people of color, families with low-incomes, people with disabilities, children, youth, and seniors. About the Role We’re looking for a social media, communications, & design manager to join our team! You’ll be contributing to the farm’s mission by sharing the stories of our work with images and words on our social media channels, through our mailing list, and more. Key Responsibilities Fully manage the farm’s social media accounts: instagram, facebook, linked in Create new posts, stories, and reels (this includes editing photos and videos using VSCO) Respond to comments and messages Send out newsletters and engage various segments of our email list (we use Flodesk) Design flyers and other informational materials When applicable, use other websites to post and advertise events, workshops, volunteer days, etc. Skills & Qualifications As an organization, we care more about your lived experience and what your strengths are vs your qualifications on paper. – At least 1 year experience with marketing, copywriting, and effective written communication + ability to match current brand and voice – At least 1 year experience with effective design and using canva + ability to match current brand and voice – At least 1 year experience with social media marketing, email marketing, understanding algorithms and analytics and assessing engagement – Excellent communication skills – Very strong attention to detail and organizational skills – Interest in gardening, food, and environmental justice – Understanding and/or lived experience of systems of inequity and oppression, both intentional and unintentional, and system impacts on youth and communities – Strong collaboration skills, and a lot of openness to feedback – Self-motivated nature and an ability to work independently and complete your key responsibilities without supervision – Experience or passion for social justice and equity work.
