Direct parish music program, including selection of music, planning for liturgical seasons and sacramental celebrations. Knows and iterates the liturgical norms for rites and seasons. Principal musician for weddings and funerals at the parish.

Discern parish worship and prayer needs; oversees the provision of quality music for liturgical celebrations and sacramental services; reads and reflects on Sunday as well as weekday and seasonal scriptures; selects music for congregation, choir, and cantors as well as instrumentalists for all liturgies, communicating choices, and preparing musical accompaniment for them; maintains and updates worship hymnals; keeps record of parish repertoire; acts as music resource for parish groups; coordinates music with liturgical plans and seasons; makes full use of existing music sources, ordering new music when necessary; maintains organized files of parish, maintains copyright privileges; encouraged to compose music.

Directs our very strong music programs Sacred Choir, SING! and Contemporary Combo; hold weekly rehearsals; coordinates participation in ecumenical and local events; plans long-range repertoire for liturgies and seasons to facilitate effective preparations and rehearsals.

Teach music classes in parochial school under supervision of principal/marketing director. Organize/direct seasonal children’s choirs for both religious education & school programs.

Consults with staff, Prayer & Worship Committee, and Environment Committee to form liturgical goals and initiatives and to plan liturgical seasons; attends Prayer & Worship Committee and Parish Staff meetings.

Maintains the church building sound system, and all parish musical instruments (organ, pianos, keyboards, etc.) in proper condition and operation. Coordinates instrumentalists; arranges parts and music for instruments; hires qualified musicians as substitutes for absences.

Qualifications

Knowledge of liturgical music repertoire and styles; skills and experience related to the tasks expected; knowledge of church music and liturgy documents; knowledge of ritual and the liturgical year; aesthetic/artistic sensibility; liturgical vision, style & priorities; knowledge of available resources. Must be a certified music teacher.
