Position: Part-time
Location: Columbus, MS

Duties:

  • Direct music for the weekly Sunday worship service, including hymns, offertory music, special music, call to worship, postludes, and other appropriate music.
  • Coordinate and prepare worship music in advance with the Protestant Chaplains.
  • Create and input worship slides for the Sunday service, ensuring no errors and smooth transitions.
  • Lead weekly music rehearsals, coordinating scheduling with relevant parties.
  • Ensure equipment is set up before services and rehearsals and returned to the appropriate location afterward.
  • Maintain the sanctuary in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Provide music for religious observances of holidays and special services, not exceeding 4 services per year.
  • Lead recruitment efforts for new volunteer musicians and vocalists.
  • Attend Protestant Advisory Council meetings, worship planning sessions, and consultation meetings with the Wing Chaplain as requested.
  • Ensure all Protestant Music volunteers are aware of local safety requirements and procedures.
  • Create an annual Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) budget and an Appropriated Fund budget for the Protestant Music program.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Music Director (preferably within a military Chapel setting).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience coordinating and conducting a Protestant blended worship service.
  • Familiarity with contemporary, traditional, and gospel Protestant music and an understanding of basic Protestant doctrine.
  • Ability to play the piano or guitar.
  • Experience in contemporary, traditional, and gospel music, sight reading, and teaching harmony.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in leading choral ensembles.
  • Availability to work flexible hours.
  • Professional attire and grooming appropriate for worship and ministry settings.
  • Willingness to work in a pluralistic environment and maintain professionalism.
  • Proficiency in using Media Shout/Live Worship to produce slideshow presentations/music slides.
