Job Description
Purpose:
To participate in the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the purpose of our church by providing strategic leadership for the planning, coordination, and execution of musical artistry in corporate worship settings throughout the church.
Leadership Role:
The Director of Music will empower, train, and encourage music team members who show an aptitude and willingness for leadership and growth in Christian service.
Responsibilities:
These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Leadership Development
- Provide oversight to those you lead in applying the Theological Vision for Ministry (TVM) to the mission of making, equipping, and developing disciples.
- Initiate the wise use of church resources through careful planning and sound preparation, ready to meet needs as they arise.
- Cultivate healthy ministry partnerships by equipping and empowering others.
- Creates concrete expressions that fulfill the mission of making, equipping, and developing disciples.
- Ensures the ministry area is well-ordered and structurally sound.
- Instructs others in sound doctrine and godly living.
- Ministry Development
- Develop annual measurable goals for the ministry.
- Organize and implement strategic steps to achieve stated outcomes. Oversee the interview and evaluation process for and approve the spiritual maturity and ability-related qualifications of any vocalists, musicians, and other participants utilized in the public ministries of the church.
- Collaborate with the Director of Creative Arts to establish an annual budget.
- Ministry Programs
- Collaborate with the Senior Pastor, Director of Creative Arts, and other relevant staff to plan weekly services around the stated themes, goals, and objectives for each occasion.
- Meet with the Senior Pastor, Director of Creative Arts, and other relevant staff and departments to pray, plan, and schedule a yearly and weekly calendar of public services.
- Review and approve the content of all music and musical artistry to be used in public settings. Maintain all relevant licensing and reporting (CCLI, CVLI, BMI, etc) to ensure licenses remain in effect.
- Evaluate and provide oversight for choir(s) and praise bands for all age groups at GHCC.
- Develop a robust rotation of leaders and members for music team ministry in church services by providing ongoing knowledge, experience, and coaching across a set of core competencies.
- Ensure that music team leaders and members are trained in the proper use and care of equipment.
- Stay up to date with changes in technology relevant to our Sunday worship service.
- Schedule music team members through Planning Center Online.
- Lead in worship for Golden Hills Community Church.
- Plan and execute worship nights.
- Assist in designing and implementing stage designs.
- Assist in creating and producing video and digital media content to be utilized by the various ministries and departments of GHCC, including content related to Sunday services and content to be used on the GHCC website, social media, app, etc.
- Support other members of the Creative Arts team in these areas:
- Staging design and lighting for all large meeting areas
- Audio and sound as they relate to GHCC gatherings
- Other
- Provide ongoing knowledge, experience, and coaching for departmental staff and unpaid team members as a means of both leadership development and discipleship.
- The Director of Music and Tech shall be responsible for other duties that may be assigned by the Director of Creative Arts.
Reporting:
The Director of Music shall report directly to the Director of Creative Arts.

Spiritual Requirements:
- Regular involvement in Golden Hills Community Church activities and events.
- Signed acknowledgment of Golden Hills Community Church’s “Statement of Faith” and “Staff Covenant/Lifestyle Agreement” forms.
- Signed acknowledgment to policies and procedures as stated in Golden Hills Community Church’s employee handbook.
- Living out the spiritual principles outlined in the “Staff Covenant/Lifestyle Agreement”; participation in a small group; tithing consistently; attending worship services; involvement in outreach; following Christ personally and passionately; sexual purity.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Education and/or experience (Must have one or more of the following)
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A. or B.S.) Preferred.
- 3-5+ years of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a teachable spirit and a willingness to grow as a worship leader, and musician.
- Must have a genuine heart to see others experience the presence of God in worship.
- Must have an enthusiasm for ministry and a desire to lead people.
- Ability to read, compose, and arrange music confidently.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of volunteers, church members, or staff members of the organization.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Must have knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software.
- Must be confident in using the following programs and operating systems:
- ProPresenter 7
- Planning Center Online
- Playback by multitracks or Ableton Live
- Mac OS
- iPad OS
Physical Requirements:
