TITLE: Vice President of Music Education
REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer
STATUS: Exempt; full-time, 1 FTE (40+ hrs/wk)
LOCATION: Minneapolis. Primarily onsite, some remote work possible
SALARY RANGE: $126,000 - $158,000
Job Summary
The Vice President of Music Education will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for all program areas. The position will be a part of the senior management team that drives the overall strategy for the organization. With a staff of 12, the Vice President will initially develop deep knowledge of each project, program, and business plan, and will focus on the following three areas: program leadership, internal and external relationships, and program management.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSProgram Leadership
- Enhance, flesh out, and implement organizational vision as established in MacPhail’s strategic plan
- Ensure ongoing programmatic and student experience excellence
- Attract, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control, and performance
- Provide leadership in the development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational growth
- Establish and maintain integration of equity and inclusion practices into program development and delivery, and faculty hiring and evaluation practices
- Provide oversight for faculty recruitment, hiring, development, and evaluation
- Serve on MacPhail’s Senior Management team participating in the shaping and implementation of the organization’s strategy, including providing the perspective of the organization’s program areas.
- Inform and involve CEO in strategic program conversations
- Partner with CFO to evaluate programs for impact on overall organization financial health
- Collaborate with marketing department to promote new initiatives and support enrollment goals for each program
- Partner with Director of Program Operations to ensure effective communications and logistics between departments, administrative functions, and faculty
- Collaborate with development team to strategize grant opportunities, fulfill grant obligations and related reporting
- Develop and manage relationships with partner organizations, education institutions, and local and national music education organizations
- Work with program and administrative staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, expert project management
- Develop the necessary systems, processes, and tools to support the creation of program outcomes and measurements, collection of data and dissemination of results that are generated by each program individually and collectively.
- Develop dissemination system to share organizational learning with internal and external constituents
- Ensure programs are assessed and leveraged for maximum community and organizational impact
- Oversee program budgets; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the department goals

Other qualifications include:
- Advanced degree in music or music education preferred, with significant teaching experience and at least 10 years of management experience.
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs and excellence in organizational and project management with the ability to achieve strategic objectives and manage budgets.
- Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Demonstrated effectiveness in prioritizing and integrating equity and inclusion.
- Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for MacPhail’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively with a management team of senior professionals.
- Program Leadership and Management: This individual will have taken a hands-on approach in leading a variety of initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a track record of effectively leading a performance-based and outcome-based program and staff. They will have developed and operationalized strategies that have taken a program or organization to the next stage of growth.
- Team Building and Development: The successful candidate will have recruited, managed, and developed a strong team of staff, and program/project leaders. This individual will serve as a “player/coach” to motivate and mentor their team.
- Exceptional Communication and Influencing Skills: As a voice/advocate of MacPhail, the Vice President of Music Education will have strong written and verbal communication skills. They will be a persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills. This individual must work collaboratively with internal as well as external partners and other organizations, providing exposure for program impact.
