Reuters seeks a journalist with computer programming skills to join its growing News Applications Desk.
The developer will partner with reporters, editors and coders across the company to collect, organize, analyze and present structured data.
They will join a newsroom team focused on creating dynamic dashboards, interactive databases and automated systems that benefit clients, inform readers, empower reporters and serve the public interest. The initiative aims to publish timely, trustworthy resources that lead to a greater understanding of the world's most pressing issues. This work requires blending skills from journalism, computer programming and product design.
About the role:
As a News Applications Developer you will:
- Design a collection of charts, maps and tables that summarize a significant storyline
- Author a software pipeline that rapidly delivers refined facts
- Experiment with practical applications of large language models and machine learning
About you:
The ideal candidate will:
- Be well versed in Python programming language
- Have demonstrable experience in developing software for the web
- Have demonstrable experience in launching data-driven products for a lay audience
- Show attention to detail
- Feel comfortable delivering with speed on a tight deadline
- Be a team player that enjoys working with different groups in a global newsroom

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $100,900 - $187,300. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following states: CA, CO, CT, IL, NV, TX, WA and/or remote. The base compensation range in other locations may vary. This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
