About Photography and the Department of Animation and Media Arts

Photography is a major program within the newly constituted Department of Animation and Media Arts Department. A&MA brings together programs in 2D, 3D, and stop-motion animation, game design, film/video, interactive arts, photography, and sound arts, and will offer BFA degrees in Animation, Photography, and Interactive Arts, and an MFA in Filmmaking. The faculty are designing a new BFA degree in Media Arts, which will integrate the curriculum from the various programs into an interdisciplinary major. There are currently 177 undergraduate majors (majors are declared after the first year of study), and 10 MFA students. The department's outstanding 32 full- and part-time faculty are nationally and internationally recognized.

The dynamic and well-established photography program at MICA serves about 40 BFA majors and 20 minors. We seek a candidate with expertise in a range of photographic practices, including Lightroom/Photoshop, fine-art inkjet printing, studio and location lighting, and traditional B&W darkroom processes. The successful candidate will also consider the question of photography in extended and interdisciplinary practices and explore the connections with moving images, artist books, and/or installation practices.
