Job Title: Senior Enterprise UX Product Designer
Location: Onsite in Los Angeles or Irvine preferred; fully remote options available for exceptional candidates.
Contract Duration: Expected to last 12-24 months, with a 30-day cancellation notice.
Work Schedule: Highly recommended to work onsite three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), with preferred in-person meetings on Thursday afternoons in LA. Open to fully remote arrangements for exceptional candidates.
Role Overview: We are seeking a Senior Enterprise UX Product Designer to join our team in a contractor role. You will collaborate closely with a dedicated team of UX designers (three full-time, including managers) and approximately ten product managers to enhance our internal investment management tool, Clarity. This role involves tackling ambiguous problems and designing solutions that improve how our users interact with complex data.
Key Responsibilities:
Interaction Design & UX Research:
- Collaborate with the UX manager and product team to understand user needs for our multi-layered, data-oriented enterprise application.
- Organize and conduct supplemental UX research to deepen insights.
- Define the information architecture and interaction models to facilitate intuitive user experiences.
- Conduct usability testing to validate design solutions.
- Analyze how investors use data, distinguishing between various yield fields and providing quick access to essential information.
UI Design:
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of our UI design system, including component definitions, typography, iconography, and color schemes.
- Design effective data visualizations that enhance user understanding of complex information.
- Focus on small, incremental enhancements to the tool based on user feedback.
Collaboration:
- Develop close working relationships with product managers and developers, spending approximately 30% of your time in meetings to showcase work and discuss design strategies.
- Engage with team members to address design challenges and collaborate effectively on solutions.
Skills and Experience:
- Expertise in Information Design and Visualization: Strong command of data visualization best practices tailored for enterprise applications.
- Interaction Design: Proven ability to design for complex enterprise app interaction patterns, especially in financial data contexts.
- Information Architecture: A systems thinker familiar with IA testing and validation methodologies.
- Prototyping Skills: Proficiency in Figma (or other learnable tools like Sketch).
- Visual Design: Solid understanding of atomic design principles and visual hierarchy within an enterprise context.
- UX Strategy/Research: Experience in conducting usability tests to inform design decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of overall experience in UX design, particularly in complex, transactional enterprise environments. Mid-career candidates preferred.
- A mix of consumer and enterprise experience is ideal; purely commercial or marketing backgrounds are not suitable.
- Experience with financial data applications is highly desirable.
- A portfolio that demonstrates effective visual design and storytelling capabilities.
Key Attributes:
- Strong communication skills are crucial for articulating design problems and solutions.
- Ability to manage ambiguity and tackle large, complex problems, driving down uncertainty to assess various design approaches.
- Candidates with a technical background and experience in design are preferred, but those with purely graphic design backgrounds will not be considered.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- 30% of your time will be spent meeting with product managers to show work and gather feedback.
- 2-4 hours will be dedicated to meetings with other designers.
- The remaining time will focus on design work.
