Job Description:
The Email Developer sits in the Globe newsroom and is responsible for optimizing and managing the back-end development of our editorial newsletter products. The email developer works directly with the Senior Editorial Director for Newsletters and across relevant cross-functional teams to execute the technical requirements of newsroom priority newsletter projects. Key tasks involve querying databases with SQL, optimizing dynamic templates, building complex email automations, implementing back-end API integrations, and providing technical support, requirements and solutions (custom if needed) for owned projects.
Responsibilities:
+ Seek to understand Globe audience needs, in order to inform newsletter products; this role works closely with the senior editorial director for newsletters to identify opportunities for newsletter product improvements and execute solutions that align with newsletter program goals and business goals.
+ Responsible for developing back-end solutions for enhancing newsletter processes, templates, accessibility, segmentation and personalization.
+ Own and build email automations (SQL, Mergetags and Ampscript) plus daily maintenance of all product and technical issues relating to existing newsletters, utilizing MailChimp and SalesForce.
+ Lead internal list management efforts including setting up list cleanses (via queries and automations), as well as implementing any security features (like reCAPTCHA, honeypots, etc) to ensure lists are healthy and free of spam.
+ Work closely with Consumer Revenue and Marketing Operations on ongoing optimization of the onsite newsletter experience.
+ Use audience data, research and market analysis to inform product strategies.
+ Work with cross-functional teams to execute newsletter product vision from a technical perspective, set requirements and act as project manager for owned projects.
+ Bring a product mindset to every interaction, thinking about the readers journey and experience through email, using data to inform decisions.
Qualifications:
+ 5+ years experience in an email product role, product design or product management
+ Previous product experience within an outcomes or jobs to be done framework
+ Ability to do discovery as independent work, blending curiosity and technical expertise into solutions
+ Experience working in a technical environment with a broad, cross-functional team to drive product vision, define product requirements, coordinate resources from other groups (design, legal, etc.), and guide the team through key milestones
+ Data driven and grounded in strategic decision making processes
+ Proven leadership, organizational, communication and execution skills
+ Comfortable building complex automation and integration logic and know how to test sizable workflows effectively.
+ Previous experience with ESPs and email developer documentation.
+ A working understanding of the marketing process and customer journey
+ Required skills : HTML, CSS, SQL, APIs, JS, REACT, AMPSCRIPT
+ Required knowledge of Mailchimp and Salesforce email platforms
+ Preferred but not required : Experience with JIRA, Airtable and Monday.com
+ A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. For this role, we will consider candidates who are based anywhere in the United States.
