Job Description
Job Summary
The Permit Writer is responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant execution of work activities within a refinery environment by issuing necessary permits, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with operations, safety personnel, project management, and contractors. This role is critical in preventing accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents.
Responsibilities
- Review and process permit applications in accordance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and refinery-specific procedures.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop control measures within the refinery context.
- Issue permits for [specific permit types, e.g., hot work, confined space, electrical, scaffolding] after ensuring all safety requirements are met for refinery operations.
- Develop and maintain safety plans for high-risk work activities in refinery settings.
- Conduct atmospheric monitoring and testing specific to refinery environments.
- Perform daily field audits to verify compliance with permit conditions and safety procedures within refinery facilities.
- Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses related to refinery operations.
- Collaborate with refinery operations, project management, and contractors to ensure safe work practices.
- Maintain accurate permit records and documentation for the refinery activities.
- Continuously improve permit processes and procedures for refinery operations
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety or related field within a refinery environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, but not required.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations, industry standards, and refinery-specific requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced refinery setting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Refinery High Hazardous PSM Training, OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 30-hour, and HAZWOPER Training required.
- Strong level of competency in Gas Detection, Confined Space and Hot Work activities within volatile environments is required.
Working Conditions
- Work in a refinery environment with potential exposure to hazardous materials, noise, and at times, extreme weather conditions.
- Adherence to strict safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Ability to work rotating shifts or overtime as needed.
