MISSION for Writing Coach
EDvance College seeks a passionate and experienced Writing Coach to support faculty and work directly with students in the Early Childhood Studies bachelor's degree program. In this role, the Writing Coach will work closely with faculty, directly engaging with students to support and enrich their writing development. The Writing Coach will learn from the lead course instructor regarding course design, pedagogy, and student engagement.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support in Writing Course Development
- Attend instruction sessions to fully grasp the course content and objectives.
- Lead writing support sessions, offering targeted guidance and feedback to improve students' writing skills.
- Provide faculty support in Canvas by providing feedback to students in regard to their writing drafts and assignments using Google Docs and directly in Canvas
- Collaborate with the faculty on a weekly basis to review the content and progress of students along with areas of concern if any.
Course Preparation and Understanding
- Attend instruction sessions and course meetings to fully grasp the course content, objectives, and writing assignments.
- Familiarize themselves with the course syllabus, learning outcomes, and writing requirements.
- Understand the expectations and grading criteria for writing assignments.
Writing Support Sessions
- Lead writing support sessions, offering targeted guidance and feedback to improve students' writing skills.
- Provide one-on-one or small group consultations to address specific writing challenges.
- Assist students with various aspects of the writing process, including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing.
- Offer strategies for effective research, citation, and academic integrity.
- Provide feedback on grammar, structure, clarity, and overall organization of written work.
- Ensure that students clearly understand assignment requirements and have a strategy in place to meet these criteria and produce high-quality written work.
Canvas and Online Support
- Provide faculty support in the Canvas learning management system by offering feedback to students on their writing drafts and assignments.
- Utilize tools like Google Docs or Canvas's built-in annotation features to provide in-line comments and suggestions.
- Monitor discussion forums and provide writing-related guidance when needed.
- Assist in creating and organizing writing resources within the Canvas course.
- If utilized, upload all presentation slides to Canvas to ensure that students have access to the materials covered during writing support sessions.
Collaboration with Faculty
- Collaborate with the faculty on a weekly basis to review the content and progress of students, as well as address any areas of concern.
- Provide feedback to the faculty on common writing challenges faced by students and suggest strategies for improvement.
- Assist in the development or revision of writing assignments and rubrics.
- Participate in grading or evaluation of writing assignments, as requested by the faculty.
- Review the course syllabus, learning outcomes, writing requirements, assignments, and all other communications are relevant, clearly articulated, and specific.
Faculty Learning Communities (FLC)
- Attend the four FLC meetings scheduled throughout the semester
- Collaborate with other writing coaches and share resources, strategies, and experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field
- One year experience in child development and early childhood education
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Proficient with Google Workspace, Zoom, and Canvas
- A background check (may include: employment and education verification, criminal records, civil records, professional licenses, credit and sex offender registries, as position requires). Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check and pass the criminal portion of the check may affect employment eligibility as it relates to the job specific duties listed below:

Desired Qualifications:
- Master's degree in early childhood education or related field
- Experience working with racially, culturally, and linguistically diverse students
- Strong commitment to JEDI+B approaches in higher education
- Prior experience as a teaching assistant or working directly with young children
- Knowledge of early childhood teaching philosophies and evidence-based practices
- Ability to work flexibly, including some evenings both virtually and in-person

COMPENSATION
$30.70 - $35.65 per hour to be determined based upon education and experience.
This is not a benefits eligible position.
Positions hired at 75% time or higher are eligible for EDvance College's comprehensive benefits package (i.e., medical/dental/vision, 401k and additional peripheral benefits including but not limited to flexible spending accounts, life insurance, etc.).
Eligibility for medical/dental/vision benefits begins the first day of the month following the date of hire. Eligibility for 401k plan participation begins the first of the month 60 days following the date of hire.
