Description
Under the direction of the Communications Manager or their designee, assists in developing and maintaining positive relationships, conducting informative programs, and maintaining open lines of communication with the community on behalf of Hernando County Fire Rescue. Works with other county departments, governmental and private entities to analyzes data and identify potential assistance opportunities. Prepares reports, conducts research, writes correspondence, engages in community events and activities, and creates content to support the Hernando County Fire Rescue. Examples of Duties
Participates in public education programs by lecture or other type of instructional methods to prevent loss of life and property due to fire or safety hazards. Assists in developing of public education programs. Coordinates (and/or provides assistance with) the planning and organization of community events, special events, and functions. Coordinates scheduling classes, meetings, and training sessions. Makes presentations and speeches to the public, individuals, and groups. Writes articles/produces videos highlighting HCFR initiatives/programs. Responsible for creating compelling and visually appealing content for social media platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, text, images, graphics, and videos. Responsible for monitoring and responding to social media comments, direct messages, and/or mentions in a manner that fosters positive and interactive on-line relationships. Responsible for the development and maintenance of social media content calendars, scheduling posts at optimal times to reach the targeted audience and maximize engagement. Responsible for monitoring social media trends, new developments, and on-line activities of other public safety agencies in an effort to improve HCFR's social media strategies. Responsible for attending community meetings, conducting presentations, and assisting with program implementation and operation, as needed. Serves as backup HCFR public information officer on a limited basis when primary PIO is unavailable. Performs related work as required or specified.
Emergency Response County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent. Associate degree in related field. (Preferred) Ongoing continued education required to stay current with changes in field. Minimum of three (3) years of performing community education, outreach, presentations and social media content creation, or related work. (Preferred) A combination of education, training and experience may be substituted at the County's discretion.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License and be insurable by current insurance carrier. Complete necessary certification for NIMS compliance. Must be able to obtain and maintain CJIS Level 2 clearance via FDLE. Required Competencies
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of public relations. Knowledge of the techniques of composing and editing publicity material. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal, written, graphic and visual form. Ability to operate computer and general office equipment. Ability to operate video and audio recording equipment and necessary accessories. Ability to function independently. Organize and review work for accuracy. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, colleagues, and other personnel. Apply sound judgement and interpretation based on acquired knowledge where limited precedent and/or guidance exists. Read and interpret various materials, ranging from moderate to complex terminology, associated with job functions. Analyze problems and draw appropriate conclusions.

Heavy lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.); walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Acceptable eyesight (with of without correction), acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid) Ability to access file cabinets for filing and retrieval of data, ability to sit at a desk and view a display screen for extended periods of time. Environmental Conditions
Work is primarily in a sedentary office environment, program presentations in a variety of settings, including inside and outside environments. Pay Grade: 7
